    Summary

    Minimum starting salary is $17.81 per hour, depending on qualifications.

    The City of Waco Seeks:

    A Property Room Technician who has strong organizational skills, can maintain strict confidentiality, and can communicate effectively. If you have experience maintaining records and inventory management, apply now!

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Required:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Two years of experience in clerical records and/or inventory management, preferably in WPD, or another Police Agency.
    • Valid Texas Driver's License
    • Must complete Police Department Background Packet
    • Must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background screening.
    • Must be able to pass a polygraph.
    • Ability to pass the Typing test - 40wpm minimum
    • Ability to pass the Office Grammar & Spelling - 70% minimum
    Required Certifications:
    • A variety of technical training and certifications are required including:
      • National/Texas Crime Information Centers (NCIC/TCIC) required within six months of hire.
      • Certification from Texas Association of Property and Evidence Inventory Technicians required within one year of hire.
      • Depending on the needs of the City, additional licenses and certifications may be required.
    Additional Requirements:
    ALL APPLICANTS - Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required.

    Applicant must meet CJIS requirements related to system access. By applying for this job, you are subject to a state and national criminal history check of the following:
    • Felony Convictions
    • Felony Deferred Adjudication
    • Class A & B Misdemeanor Convictions
    • Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication
    • Any open arrest for any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor)
    • Any Family Violence Convictions

    Position Overview
    Under basic supervision, maintains and secures property and evidence for the Waco Police Department (WPD).

    Position Responsibilities
    • Processes, secures, and maintains the inventory of WPD seized/recovered property and evidence and preserves the legal chain of custody in compliance with state laws, City policies and WPD quality standards.
    • Receives property and evidence; documents receipt of items; maintains the technical chain of custody from intake to final disposition; marks and stores all evidence in an orderly manner for proper retrieval; documents handling of evidence; maintains activity logs and generates reports.

    Governance and Organization

    Waco is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of a Mayor, elected at-large, and five City Council members representing single-member districts, all serving two-year terms. The City Council sets the tax rate, approves the budget, appoints members to City boards and commissions, enacts City ordinances, and appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Secretary, and the Municipal Court Judge.

    The City has a strong Financial Management Policy that guides the operation and delivery of quality City services, contributes to excellent AA+ and Aa1 bond ratings, and maintains an unassigned fund balance reserve in the General Fund equal to 28% of current year budgeted expenditures. The City of Waco has more than 1,600 employees and a total operating budget of over $400 million.

    The City provides a full range of municipal services including a regional airport, animal services, building inspections, code enforcement, convention and visitors bureau, emergency management, housing and community development, economic development, fire, public health, library, municipal court, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum, utilities and zoo operations.
