    JOB SUMMARY

    Under general direction, is responsible for ensuring the reliability of technology related to Public Safety operations. Provides production support, diagnosing and fixing hardware and software problems. Submits and monitors support tickets submitted to appropriate vendors. Adheres to standards related to software security and administration of user permissions. Coordinates system upgrades, maintains test scripts, and supervises testing of upgrades and patches. Document processes, procedures, workflows, security, and roles. Reports to Information Technology, Service Delivery Manager.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    1. Troubleshoots problems with workflow, roles, security, OS, applications and hardware.
    2. Makes modifications to correct the problem and responds to the end user with the solution or provides training on established processes.
    3. Works closely with other IT teams for further resolution or vendor support if needed.
    4. Submits support tickets to vendor support for unresolvable system errors, new processes, and overall application questions.
    5. Monitors support tickets and works with vendor support for resolution and final closure on open support tickets.
    6. Develop and execute maintenance plan for existing Public Safety technologies.
    7. Coordinates system upgrades with other IT teams, vendor support, and the internal testing team. Maintains department test plans, executes or monitors end user testing, logs testing results, and works with IT and vendor support to resolve any found issues.
    8. Researches and recommends innovative, and where possible, automated approaches to system administrative tasks.
    9. Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, system and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
    10. Develops and maintains documentation of updates and creation of roles, business workflows, application security, and data access for all applications. Creates and maintains user guides and ensures they are accessible to system users.
    11. Plans, coordinates, implements, and/or oversees assigned technology projects.
    12. Logs all incoming incidents and completes requests in IT's work order management system.
    13. Miscellaneous:
    • Attends technical training sessions.
    • Participates in user groups training and conferences.
    • Works with other system application users and developers to share and exchange knowledge.
    • Performs other routine and/or specialized duties as required.
    14. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

    DECISION MAKING
    • Analytical reasoning needed to troubleshoot problems, determine technological solutions, and apply the best solution to the situation.
    • Analytical and critical thinking skills and experience in the technical environment involving research, performing data/gap analysis with proficient problem-solving experience anticipating and resolving root issues of moderate complexity.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications)

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field. Commensurate combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
    • Minimum two (2) years of progressive technical support or application support experience is required.
    • Valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record is required.
    • Must be able to pass FBI criminal background fingerprint check, and have the ability to comply with state and federal requirements for criminal justice information security standards.


    Training/Certifications :
    • Must obtain ITIL Foundation certification within 1 year.
    • Must obtain FEMA NIMS certifications within 1 year.


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Experience working with Fire Department-related applications, organizations, and nomenclature.
    • Knowledge of Information Technology practices and change management processes.
    • Strong organizational skills with proven track record or prioritizing, managing and executing multiple priorities successfully.
    • Technology related certifications desired

    JOB DIMENSIONS
    • Technical manuals and instruction, user documentation, user manuals, trade journals, City policies and procedures, reports, files, and other paperwork. Computer related calculations for designing spreadsheets and other programs. Must be able to communicate professionally with application users, management, field level personnel and vendors.
    • Ability to mentor associate level team members; assists in the process improvement and best practice initiatives.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. Subject to sitting, handling, fine dexterity, vision (including distinguishing color), hearing and talking constantly; standing and kneeling frequently, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, bending and foot controls occasionally.

    Working conditions involve occasional exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, diesel generators and/or other machinery with moving parts, working in confined spaces, and hazards associated with moving/lifting equipment and furniture is involved. Computer room is kept at 70 degrees and may be drafty. Noisy work environment, i.e. generators, alarms, and staff talking on phones (noises are intermittent and constant).
