    TEEX EMS Wage Instructor II

    Temporary/Casual (Wage)

    $35.00/hour

    The EMS Wage Instructor II is responsible for assisting EMS Education Programs lead instructors with didactic, psychomotor, and affective instruction and evaluations for all basic and advanced initial EMS Education and continuing courses to include psychomotor instruction for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education training program. Utilizes adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of all TEEX/ESTI initial EMS education courses. Responsible for assisting the EMS Lead instructors in collecting necessary reports and information for CoAEMSP accreditation, NREMT and Texas Department of Health and Human Services EMS credentialing requirements. The EMS Wage Instructor II reports directly to the EMS Training Director.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Associate’s degree in EMS or other related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Five years of emergency or seven years non-emergency field experience as a paramedic or EMT Basic and/or five years initial EMS education instruction with a Texas Department of Health and Human Services or CoAEMSP accredited EMS education program.
    • Two years of adult education and/or training.


    Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
    • Certificate/Instructor Certification - Current or able to obtain within 90 days of employment AHA BLS, ACLS and PALS. (The EMS Program has the ability to provide AHA initial and instructor certifications).
    • Current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) paramedic or EMT Basic or Texas Department of Health and Human Services (TDSHS -EMS) certification Paramedic or EMT Basic.

    **The Agency Wage Instructor II must maintain current National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic or Texas Department of State Health and Human Services (TDSHS-EMS) Certification Paramedic**

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in EMS or related field from an accredited college or university.
    • Update Certificate/Instructor Certifications - PEEP, ITLS-PHTLS.
    • NAEMSE Instructor I or Texas Department of Health and Human Services EMS Instructor.
    • Working knowledge with CoAEMSP, NREMT and TDSHS education standards.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day.
    • Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, movement of light, moderate, and/or heavy training equipment, and instructional materials.

    • Advanced working knowledge of initial EMS education.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook and instructional programs.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

    Notifications:
    • This position is security sensitive.
    • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
    • This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Training Course Delivery - 75%
    • Assists the EMS Lead instructor to ensure that courses are effectively and efficiently presented in accordance with recognized EMS education standards.
    • Maintains subject matter expertise relating to initial and continuing EMS education.
    • Performs initial and continuing EMS education, including careful planning of the courses, preparation of lessons, meeting all scheduled classes, clearly informing students of course requirements, and fairly and impartially grading all students in accordance with the standards established by the EMS Program.
    • Assists the EMS Lead instructor/Lab Coordinator to ensure that the classroom is prepared for class delivery to include setting up and tearing down equipment, course props and other materials.
    • Adheres to the course syllabi and textbooks adopted for each course and follows approved curriculum course outline.
    • Delivers presentations in a positive manner using adult learning principles.
    • Mentors wage instructors during training deliveries and skills training.
    • Assists the EMS Lead instructor/Lab Coordinator to ensure all training materials, training aids and classrooms are secured upon the completion of the course.
    • Assists in the development and updating, initial and continuing education EMS course materials.


    Training Documentation - 20%
    • Assists the EMS Lead instructor/Lab Coordinator at the start of class, ensures students sign the attendance roster.
    • Assists the EMS Lead instructor/Lab Coordinator in collecting necessary reports and information for CoAEMSP accreditation.
    • Assists the EMS Lead instructor/Lab Coordinator with completion all required course documents in a timely manner.


    Fiscal Responsibility - 5%
    • Prepares reports and travel claims and ensures that they are accurate and submitted in accordance with TEEX SAPs and State travel regulations.


    Other Duties:
    • Completes all required TEEX/TAMUS training within the requested due dates.
    • Maintains and safeguards assigned divisional equipment and property to include labs.
    • Performs additional work duties as assigned.
