    Job Description

    The Agency Instructor I acts as a lead instructor while utilizing knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and guided by Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service’s (TEEX) Safety, Teamwork, Adaptability, Respect and Stewardship (STARS) values, is instrumental in making a difference for the Infrastructure Safety Training Institute by coordinating the Environmental, Health and Safety Program course activities associated with delivering assigned courses at locations across the nation and online. You will conduct course topic presentations to include demonstrations with course teaching aids. You will utilize their knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to present and maximize learner success to a diverse audience in a manner to ensure effectiveness of course instruction. This position must be capable of working independently to conduct course coordination with host agencies and coordination of travel with assigned support staff as well as other assigned program duties. This position reports to the Agency Training Manager. This position is located at San Antonio, TX.

    Required Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Five years of related experience in environmental, health and safety
    • Two years in adult education and/or training and a background in training concepts and programs
    • Bilingual (English and Spanish)


    Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Valid Driver’s License
    • U.S. Passport or ability to obtain a passport within 180 days of employment


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
    • Seven or more years of experience in environmental, health and safety
    • Three or more years of experience in adult education and/or training and a background in training concepts and programs
    • Formal instructor training


    Physical Requirements:
    • Regular use of computer/keyboard
    • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
    • Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day (standing)
    • Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, wearing/movement of personal protective equipment, movement of training equipment to include human patient simulators and instructional materials up to 30 lbs. with assistance
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Advanced working knowledge in environmental, health and safety
    • Ability to lead instruction and provide effective demonstration hands-on training activities
    • Excellent communication (oral/written) and presentation skills
    • Knowledge of principals and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups
    • Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies
    • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and classroom management skills
    • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
    • Ability to work effectively with customers, co-workers, and staff of all levels
    • Ability to interact respectfully and professionally with customers, co-workers, and staff of all levels
    • Working knowledge of basic office software, computers and instructional programs
    • Excellent small group facilitation and team building skills
    • Ability to orally comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, possess self-starter and time management skills
    • Ability to facilitate and adapt course and course content
    • Demonstrate a positive attitude and work ethic

    Equipment:
    • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone
    • Training equipment
    • Standard audio/visual Equipment: TV, Projectors, PA systems
    • Internet based video platforms to include: WebEx, Zoom, Teams


    Notifications:
    • This position is security-sensitive.
    • This position may require up to 50% or more travel.
    • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.
    • This position is located at San Antonio, TX.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Training Delivery & Program Support - 75%:
    • Serves as a lead instructor to ensure that the course is effectively and efficiently presented
    • Ensures classrooms/exercise locations are ready for participants
    • Prepares training/exercise materials, training aids, and/or equipment prior to course deliveries
    • Ensures concerned parties, points of contacts, host organization, agencies, are contacted at regular intervals and notified of schedules, locations, and times
    • Develops instructional techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles
    • Initiates and maintains collaborative classroom discussionsand monitors learner performance
    • Ensures participants have achieved terminal objectives of the course
    • Ensures training/exercise materials, training aids, and classrooms/exercise locations are secured and accounted for upon completion of the course
    • Develops and maintains subject matter expertise to include current and emerging issues
    • Monitors for completion of online pre and post tests
    • Collects exercise and training documentation, forms, and attendance rosters and other sensitive materials, as appropriate, and submits in a timely manner
    • Ensures class documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with Division Guidance, Agency, and contractual requirements (if applicable)


    Develops & Updates Course Materials - 15%:
    • Assists with the research and development of lesson plans, outlines, training aids, manuals, and scenarios for practical application
    • Assists in preparing and developing exercise documents, materials, project aids, and equipment prior to exercise delivery
    • Creates and/or updates PowerPoint presentations and /or other graphic training aids
    • Ensures that new instructional materials are reviewed as they become available to determine relevance with current courses
    • Identifies content and resources which would be appropriate for use in course revisions
    • Completes review and comments as required for course revisions


    Administrative & Fiscal Responsibilities - 5%:
    • Submits travel forms to Training Manager within two business days after course completion
    • Submits timesheet in Workday by the assigned due date
    • Maintains course and student documentation for class deliveries
    • Submits course documentation in a timely manner
    • Completes any additional required reports


    Divisional & Program Responsibilities - 5%:
    • Reports operational issues to the Training Manager
    • Participates in professional development activities specifically targeted at improving instruction techniques (not subject matter)
    • Maintains required professional credentials
    • Follows all dress codes associated with work activity (i.e., travel, workshops, in office, etc.)
    • Actively and positively participates in team meetings and events
    • Works cooperatively and respectfully with other sections, programs, and divisions within TEEX


    Other Duties:
    • Supports the TEEX values of Safety, Teamwork, Adaptability, Respect and Stewardship in all work activities
    • Maintains a clean and professional appearance
    • Attends scheduled meetings unless previously excused by supervisor
    • Completes TAMUS/Agency required training within the requested due dates
    • Represent TEEX in a professional and positive light during travel and classroom instruction
    • Maintains and safeguards assigned divisional equipment and property
    • Performs additional work duties as assigned
