DESCRIPTIONTHE AGENCY: The Alameda County Auditor-Controller Agency is a general government agency which provides direct services to County residents as well as administrative and operational support to County departments. The Agency develops and maintains the County’s accounting, payroll, audit, tax analysis, budget and grants, contract compliance, and cost plan systems and procedures. The Central Collections Department collects receivables mandated by State and federal laws and regulations. The Office of the Clerk-Recorder provides for the recording of all recordable documents and maps, collection and distribution of fees and taxes from recording documents, and maintenance of the vital statistics register.
The current Assistant Controller recruitment is specific to the
Clerk-Recorder function of the Auditor-Controller/Clerk-Recorder Agency.

THE POSITION Under administrative direction, to plan, organize and direct the accounting, clerk-recorder, revenue recovery, budget and related operations of the County Auditor-Agency; and to do related work as required.
This unique class is located in the Auditor-Agency and reports to the Auditor-Controller/Clerk-Recorder. It is responsible for management of a wide range of specialized accounting, revenue recovery and clerk-recorder activities, including: County-wide budget and accounting services, grants fiscal administration, and the County payroll system; collection of debts owed to the County; and the recording of public documents and performance of non-court related County Clerk functions. This classification differs from the next lower class of Division Chief, Auditor in that the latter does not have direct policy control over assigned program responsibilities or multiple divisions in the Auditor’s Agency.

Assistant Controller (#0031) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEither I The equivalent of five years as a Division Chief, or the equivalent or higher level managerial/fiscal position in the Alameda County classified service.
Or II The equivalent of eight years of increasingly responsible, full-time experience in an accounting or fiscal management capacity, including supervision of a major accounting operation.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTSThe examination will consist of the following steps:
A review of candidates' application to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. A review of the supplemental questionnaire to determine the best qualified applicants to continue in the process. An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidates' final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.
Candidates must attain a qualifying rating on each portion of this recruitment.
