    Role

    Community Health Services is currently seeking a Medical Assistant I for the Cottonwood clinic. The ideal candidate will possess certification as a Medical Assistant and be bilingual in both English and Spanish.

    Major Duties, Responsibilities

    • Optimizes clinic workflow including escorting patients to exam room, carrying out patient history interviews, taking and recording vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, providing patient information/instructions, and exiting patients.
    • Conveys clinical information to patients on behalf of the provider after receiving specific instructions in areas such as taking medications, special diets, prescription refills, and laboratory tests.
    • Organizes and maintains clinic exam rooms and workspace including restocking supplies in patient rooms, maintaining inventory and sterilizing instruments.
    • Performs basic in-house laboratory tests including finger stick glucose or hemoglobin, dip stick urinalysis, rapid test for strep infections, and electrocardiograms.
    • Administers medication and treatment (excluding injections) to patients as directed by the provider.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:
    High school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience:
    No experience required.

    Additional Requirements:
    Must possess Medical Assistant Certification from an approved Medical Assistant training program.
    Must obtain Basic Life Support for the Health Care Professionals within three (3) months of hire.
    Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
    Must possess a current fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of:

    • Basic healthcare methods and practices, including the correct methods for collecting laboratory specimens.
    • Medical office operations.
    • Cultural diversity and implications in delivering healthcare.
    • Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
    • Clerical office practices and procedures.
    • Research techniques and report writing.
    • Current Microsoft Office software.
    • Filing and recordkeeping.

    Skill in:
    • Demonstrating care, concern, and courtesy when dealing with people.
    • Balancing job responsibilities and assuring patients receive timely care without undue waiting in exam rooms or lobby.
    • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
    • Organization and adherence to detail.

    Ability to:
    • Understand health care concepts pertinent to work requirements and provide accurate and thorough teaching to patients as directed by the health care provider.
    • Recognize and report a patient's health status accurately.
    • Maintain public trust by honoring patient confidentiality at all times.
    • Assure that efforts are made to provide patients with information needed to make personal health decisions.
    • Travel between all clinic locations to provide staffing coverage when needed.
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
    • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
    • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
    • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
    • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

    Work Environment:
    The work involves potential exposure to infections, contagious diseases and blood borne pathogens. Clinical staff are required to use appropriate protective equipment. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.

    Physical Requirements:
    Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
