Job Description and DutiesUnder the general direction of the Office Chief, a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Senior Transportation Engineer will act as subject matter expert on various Local Assistance Programs, including but not limited to SB-1 and Federal Programs. The Sr. TE will act as team leader for an interdisciplinary staff that assists local public agencies with their federal and/or state funded projects. Primary responsibilities include providing support to local agencies in securing federal and state financing for transportation projects, and overseeing the development and implementation of local agency projects to ensure their adherence to all current State and Federal guidelines and regulations. This may include travel to various locations throughout the bay area to attend meetings with local and regional agencies, leading or participating in field reviews, process reviews, and maintenance reviews. Responsibilities will include coordinating and conducting training and giving presentations for local agencies and internal staff.

Working ConditionsPosition located in Oakland, Alameda County.
The incumbent will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting and/or remotely in accordance with the telework policy. Due to periodic problems with heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate. The office may have limited viewing access to the outdoors and the incumbent will be assigned cubicle space as a base of operation.
Work hours will be set sometime between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Vacations may be restricted during peak times. The incumbent will be required to travel to local agency offices throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and occasionally to Sacramento and/or other State offices.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
