    Collective Bargaining Unit: California State University Employees Union - Unit 5

    Job Classification: Custodian

    Anticipated Hiring Amount: Up to $3,680 per month

    Work Hours: Monday - Friday 3:00am-11:30am (Hours of operation may varied and are dependent upon the operational needs of the university)

    THE DEPARTMENT:

    Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) serves as the lead organization for planning, developing, and maintaining the campus’ natural and built environments in support of the university’s mission. The department seeks to preserve and enhance CPP’s history, aesthetics, physical assets, and natural ecosystems through coordinated planning, design, and construction of buildings, roads, infrastructure, landscaping and other physical improvements. As an advocate on behalf of the university and its auxiliaries, FPM strives to provide facilities that meet scope, budget, operational needs and functional requirements. FPM is comprised of approximately 200 facilities professionals (FTE) that also provides maintenance services including custodial services, landscaping, recycling, building and mechanical trades, energy and utility management, fleet and auto services. The workforce is culturally diverse and multilingual. Its composition includes full time staff throughout FPM who are also earning their degrees and many whom have graduated from Cal Poly Pomona. The staff includes licensed architects and engineers, accountants, planners, project managers, administrative staff, carpenters, plumbers, locksmiths, painters, electricians, landscape architects, computer technicians, custodians and other building and mechanical trade technicians.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Dust and clean building fixtures such as walls, partitions, ledges, windowsills, clocks, blinds, mirrors, entrances, doors, picture frames, handrails, kick plates, hand plates, Doorknobs, door handles, windows and other surfaces. Remove gum, tape, streaks, smudges, spills, fingerprints, marks, and graffiti.
    • Dust and clean furniture such as bookcases, chairs, couches, cabinets, shelves, tables, trash cans, etc.
    • Clean desktops, chair seats and backs of chairs in classrooms; clean whiteboards, chalkboards, erasers, and trays; replace chalk and erasers, remove chalk dust and broken chalk pieces. Clean thresholds, door frames and window frames; remove carpet stains, clean mats, and rugs. Dust mop, clean carpets, sweep, vacuum, wet mop, spot mop, scrub, strip, seal, wax, restore and burnish floors.
    • Police and maintain bulletin boards and remove staples. Remove broken furniture to loading docks; keep stairwells, hallways, and entrances clear; re-align furniture to established placement; clean elevators, tracks, stairwells, entrance areas and breezeways.
    • During rainy season, place mats, wet floor signs and mop as needed. Scrub and completely disinfect restrooms, locker rooms, shower rooms.
    • Clean and disinfect sinks, toilets, urinals and partition walls, floor drains, water fountains, and perform high-grade cleaning disinfection with an approved electrostatic sprayer. Polish chrome and stainless steel; stock & clean dispensers, order supplies; clean, stock, organize and maintain custodial cart, equipment, and supplies.
    • Empty trash and replace worn liners, spot clean trash receptacles and covers; clean and refill sand ash urns; empty pencil sharpeners. Report work orders as needed to X3030; change lights or call-in work order; notify lead of safety concerns and of equipment repair needs.
    • Participate in energy conservation, (minimally lighting), participate in recycling program. Lock and unlock entry doors; unlock non-secured areas by 6:30 a.m.; activate and deactivate alarms as needed; notify Police department of security problems.
    • Spray for insects and remove dead rodents. Turn in lost and found items; sign in and out each shift; pick up and return keys and alarm cards each shift; proper shoes must be worn during the entire work shift, no open toe / open heel shoes; wear appropriate personal protection equipment as needed, i.e. dust mask, rubber boots, knee pads, gloves eye goggles, hearing protection, etc., label all containers; have knowledge of chemicals regarding safety and proper usage; do not leave trash or combustible materials in closets.
    • Wash and dry towels, dust mops and spin bonnets. Keep simple records and prepare simple reports; able to read, write and speak English at an acceptable level to communicate; drive state vehicles as needed.
    • Project Work: High dusting, i.e. vents cobweb removal, light diffusers, clocks, door and window ledges, bulletin boards, chalkboards, maps, audio visual equipment, etc.
    • Seal and clean concrete entrances; set up for commencement and other special events; event clean up; flood response and clean up; window cleaning; diffuser cleaning; trash can clean; wall washing; refinishing floors; carpet cleaning; team and detail cleaning; pre-set equipment and supplies for projects.


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Driver License, Valid and in State
    • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety; operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies applicable to the position; use custodial systems such as those used to track work orders and two-way radios for communication; observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required; perform work involving regular physical activity; and establish and maintain cooperative work relationships.
    • Some positions may require ability to move up to 50 pounds.


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Two years of custodial experience preferably in a university or college environment

    Background Check

    CSU Classification Salary Range

    This position is part of the CSUEU bargaining unit 5. The CSU Classification Standards for this position are located on the CSU Classification Standards website. The CSU Salary Schedule is located on the CSU Salary Schedule website. The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $3,680 and maximum $4,951 per month.
