  • Job Description

    Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Environmental Management Division located at 6901 Elmwood
    Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Implements and follows through on general instructions received from supervisors.
    • Occasionally gives technical instructions to skilled and semi-skilled subordinates.
    • Inspects work routinely while in progress and reviewed upon completion for results obtained.
    • Assigns leads and participates in the work of an assigned crew.
    • Determines needs and requisitions tools, materials and equipment for native landscape management.
    • Directs safety activities among employees and assigned crew.
    • Conducts safety training programs and meetings with a crew.
    • Receives requests for emergency and unscheduled work and makes arrangements for prompt performance of work.
    • Instructs employees in new methods of work and in procedural changes.
    • Maintains necessary reports such as completing time sheets, activity reports, accident, injury and equipment condition reports.
    • Helps to resolve employee complaints.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES 3 years experience of a progressively responsible nature in construction or maintenance work, including 1 year at the level of the City's Maintenance Worker. Must possess a valid MO Class A, B, Or C CDL prior to the end of probationary period as determined by the department. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City. Preference given for knowledge/experience of native landscaping, natural area management and identification of native plants; invasive species identification and removal techniques; experience with prescribed burns.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
