    The Position

    Bargaining Unit: Local 1021 - Social Services First Line Supervisors Unit

    The Employment and Human Services Department is currently accepting applications to fill nine (9) vacancies for Social Work Supervisor II.

    What you will typically be responsible for:
    • Supervising a team of Social Worker II & III professionals, along with clerical and support personnel
    • Establishing clear performance expectations, tracking and coaching staff progress, and resolving conflicts and disputes effectively
    • Managing individual programs and facilitating both individual supervision meetings and group meetings
    • Overseeing staff attendance, timesheets, and leaves, as well as providing supervision and training to interns and new staff, and managing ongoing learning for experienced staff
    • Understanding and interpreting County, State, and Federal Child Welfare policies and protocols, and training staff on policy and protocol implementation
    • Participating in inter-agency meetings and County committees relevant to Child Welfare and juvenile dependency
    • Verifying that Social Workers are meeting compliance for timely home visits, face to face contacts, investigations, and Court reports
    • Reviewing and approving Court Reports, Case Plans, Risk Assessment tools and other written materials for accuracy and proper grammar; as well as coaching and instructing social workers to enhance their writing skills

    Minimum Qualifications

    License Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license. Out-of- State motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.

    Education: Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Social Work, Counseling or Psychology with a specialization in Marriage, Family Therapy or in a major within the social/human services field or Gerontology specifically for Adult Protective Services.

    Experience: Three (3) years of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) complex and specialized social casework experience in a public or private human services agency equivalent to a Contra Costa County Social Worker III or the assessment of risk to children or adults and participation in Juvenile or Superior Court proceedings.

    Desirable Qualifications:
    • Experience as a Child Welfare Social Worker
    • Knowledge of child abuse, mental health, substance abuse, intimate partner violence, and trauma informed practice
    • Strong writing and communication skills


    Selection Process

    Application Filing and Evaluation: Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process. HireVue Oral Exam: The assessment will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. In the assessment, candidates must achieve an average passing score of 70% or higher on each of the competencies and an overall passing score of 70% or higher. These may include, but are not limited to: Critical Thinking, Professional Integrity & Ethics, Handling Stress, Valuing Diversity, and Oral Communication.Departmental Hiring Interview

    The online interview will be administered remotely using a computer or mobile device such as a tablet. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to participate in the online interview, as well as computer or mobile device with a camera.

    DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
