The person in this position will oversee the Excise Tax team members that license motor fuel distributors, wholesalers and suppliers, process motor fuel tax reports and motor fuel tax refund requests. This supervisory position not only guides employees in processing these reports and refund requests, and it also assists Missouri taxpayers with return and licensing compliance. The work has a direct impact on the distribution of motor fuel tax funds to MODOT and local city/county governments/taxpayers.
DUTIES PERFORMED TO SUPPORT THE DEPARTMENT’S VISION: This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this title.
- Oversee the processing of motor fuel tax refund claims
- Oversee the licensing of entities in the motor fuel industry, the processing of monthly motor fuel tax returns, and depositing of motor fuel tax collections
- Address telephone and e-mail inquiries from motor fuel tax licensees regarding registration and reporting issues
- Supervise, coach and mentor employees, by reviewing production reports to meet their full potential
- Monitor workflow and adjust priorities based on backlogs
- Train new staff members and cross train current employees
- Conduct staff performance meetings and evaluations
- Perform other related work or special projects as assigned by management

QUALIFICATIONS: - Possess a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency (GED)
- Four or more years of experience in licensing, registration, collections, tax preparation, tax processing, accounting, bookkeeping, auditing, or closely related work. (Substitutions may be allowed)
