    DUTIES

    $72,683 to $106,279; $86,649 to $125,238; $101,184 to $147,934.

    NOTES :

    1. Annual salary is at the start of the pay range. The current salary range is subject to change.

    2. Candidates from the eligible list are normally appointed to vacancies in the lower pay grade
    position.

    DUTIES

    A Social Worker performs a variety of professional social work tasks involving persons, families, groups and communities; provides information and assistance to program recipients, caregivers and other professionals providing services to clients; performs continuing client assessment, diagnosis and treatment plans for various social services programs; may assign, review and evaluate the work of a group of employees engaged in delivering social services, including applying sound supervisory standards and techniques including building and maintaining an effective work group and fulfilling equal employment opportunity responsibilities, and personally conducts clinical assessments.

    REQUIREMENT(S)/MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)

    Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in social work, social welfare, gerontology or psychology.

    PROCESS NOTES
    Some positions may require a valid California driver’s license. Candidates may not be eligible for appointment to these positions if their record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation (such as DUI). Applicants must list their school name and location, type of degree earned and major in the Education Section of the application. Applicants who fail to provide this information on their application will not be considered further in this examination and their applications will not be processed.Please note that qualifying education must be from a college or university accredited by a City of Los Angeles recognized agency. Candidates completing the exam process will be contacted by the Personnel Department to provide required proof of qualifying degree. Applicants who wish to expedite this process may attach a copy of their qualifying degree to their on-line application at the time of filing in the Attachments section. SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION

    In accordance with Charter Section 1010(b) and Civil Service Rule 5.31, some positions will be used for some positions that require specific skills and/or training. Only persons possessing the following at the time of filing may be considered for appointment to fill such positions.

    1. Two years full-time professional social work experience working in a social service agency, clinic, hospital, or public agency; and either one of the following:

    A. Completion of a master’s degree program in social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, Commission on Accreditation (CSWE-COA); or

    B. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in social welfare, gerontology, or psychology.

    2. A current and valid license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, and five years of full-time professional social work experience, three years of which must provide clinical supervisory experience working in a social service agency, clinic, hospital or public agency.

    NOTES:

    1. Applicants that desire to be considered for Selective Certification #1 or #2 as described above must respond to the Selective Certification Questionnaire at the time of filing. The Selective Certification Questionnaire is located within the Supplemental Questions of the City application. Applicants who fail to complete the Selective Certification Questionnaire will not be considered further in selective certification.

    2. For qualifying work experience gained outside of the City of Los Angeles, the term “professional experience” applies to positions that require possession of a degree from an accredited four-year college or university in order to obtain that position. Therefore, to be considered “professional”, non-City qualifying experience must be gained in positions after obtaining a four-year degree

    APPLICATION DEADLINE

    In accordance with Civil Service Rule 4.2, all applicants who apply may not be tested in this examination. To meet anticipated hiring needs, only a limited number of qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process in the following order: 1) Applicants currently employed by the City of Los Angeles who meet the minimum requirements, or are on a reserve list; 2) Remaining applicants who meet the minimum requirements in sufficient numbers to meet hiring needs based on a random sampling of those qualified candidates. Applications submitted during the filing period may be kept on file in the event that additional applicants need to be tested to meet hiring needs.

    SELECTION PROCESS

    Examination Weight: Training and Experience Questionnaire: 100%

    The examination will consist entirely of an evaluation of training and experience questionnaire wherein candidates may be evaluated on their knowledge, experience, professional background, and personal qualifications as they have provided the necessary skills and knowledge of: purposeful interviewing, assessment, diagnosis, planning treatment, and outcome evaluation; community services and programs available to seniors, youth, family and other community members; problems, needs and attitudes of senior citizens, youth, families, persons with disabilities and other community members; principles of community organizations and social service program development; crisis intervention skills and techniques; general principles of social and/or behavioral sciences; supervisory principles and practice; techniques of training, instructing and evaluating subordinates’ work performance; supervisory responsibility for equal employment opportunity as set forth in the City’s Equal Employment Opportunity Program; and the ability to: assess and analyze the needs and problems of targeted client groups and develop appropriate alternatives and solutions; organize a comprehensive, consistent, and thorough follow-up system evaluating whether clients received the services they needed; work independently and complete assignments from general instructions; provide social support services in emergency situations; develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with community organizations and groups; prepare and deliver clear and concise written and oral reports, evaluations, presentations, and recommendations; interview clients and conduct comprehensive assessments; plan, organize, and direct the activities of staff; and other necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

    The Training and Experience Questionnaire will be administered on-line. Candidates invited to participate in the examination will receive an e-mail from the City of Los Angeles outlining the specific steps needed to complete the on-line Training and Experience Questionnaire. Candidates that do not complete the on-line Training and Experience Questionnaire as required will not be considered further in this examination. It is anticipated that the on-line Training and Experience Questionnaire will be administered during the period of MONDAY, JANUARY 6, 2025 to MONDAY, JANUARY 13, 2025.

    Training and Experience Questionnaires for all candidates who meet the requirements, and in accordance with Rule 4.2 as stated above, will be submitted to an expert review panel for evaluation. The expert review panel will assign a numeric score to each candidate based on an assessment of each candidate’s qualifications, as described on the candidate’s Training and Experience Questionnaire. Unsolicited supplemental information will not be submitted to the expert review panel.

    NOTES :

    This examination is based on a validation study, and as provided by Civil Service Commission Rule 4.20, the Training and Experience Questionnaire will not be subject to candidate inspection.As a covered entity under the Fair Employment and Housing Act and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the City of Los Angeles does not discriminate on the basis of disability and, upon request, will provide reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access to its programs, services, and activities.
