THE POSITIONThe City of Ventura is seeking a skilled and dynamic Information Technology Project Management Professional to manage the post-implementation and ongoing support of our recently launched Workday Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform. This role will focus primarily on the ERP project, overseeing its maintenance, governance, and continuous improvement, while also providing project management leadership for additional IT initiatives as needed.
As a key member of the IT project management team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful adoption of Workday, helping drive operational efficiency, productivity, and cost savings across the organization. This Temporary-Extended-Term position is expected to extend for three (3) years or more, offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-impact project at the heart of the city's technological transformation.
Reporting to the Information Technology Project Manager, the Information Technology Project Management Professional will oversee the planning and execution of projects. This includes assigning tasks to team members, creating and tracking project plans, timelines, and budgets, identifying and mitigating risks, developing communication strategies, and ensuring compliance with data governance standards.
PRIMARY JOB ASSIGNMENTS FOR THIS TEMP-EXTENDED-TERM POSITION INCLUDE: Pro j ect Planning and Execution: Developing detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets; assigning tasks and responsibilities to team members; monitoring project progress and making necessary adjustments; ensuring adherence to project scope, timeline, and budget.
Stakeholder Management: Communicating project progress and updates to stakeholders; managing expectations and resolving conflicts; building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating potential risks throughout the project lifecycle; developing contingency plans to address unforeseen challenges.
Change Management: Leading organizational change associated with Workday implementation efforts; providing support to employees during the transition process.
Governance: Oversee the governance framework for ERP release management and configuration updates, ensuring compliance with data management, security, and established City policies.
To be successful in this position, the Information Technology Project Manager must have:
- Strong project management skills, including experience with agile or waterfall methodologies.
- Knowledge of ERP modules, such as HCM, Financials, and Payroll. Workday specific experience would be a plus.
- Technical proficiency in IT systems and processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate project teams.
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Experience with data migration and integration.
(Successful candidate will need to complete an extensive post-offer Police Department background investigation.)

POSITION QUALIFICATIONSWHAT DOES IT TAKE TO QUALIFYA combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in project management, information systems, computer science, business system analysis or a related field and four years of progressively responsible information technology project management experience including two years of responsibility and experience at leading projects and supervising staff, is required. Public agency project management experience is preferred.
Working with complex stakeholder environments and enterprise-wide services a plus.
License: Possession of a valid class C driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
