    FLEET SERVICES PARTS TECHNICIAN

    (WAREHOUSE WORKER III)

    SALARY INFORMATION

    This position is scheduled to receive salary range increases on the following date:

    Effective June 27, 2025 - 4.0% increase

    Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

    This recruitment is open to the public and will establish an open eligible list that will be used to fill current and future Warehouse Worker III vacancies. This eligible list may also be utilized to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

    OC FLEET SERVICES
    OC Fleet Services (OCFS) is responsible for vehicle life-cycle management, maintenance/repair, and compliance with State and Federal emissions requirements. OCFS provides responsive, cost effective fleet services to agencies/departments of the County of Orange. They assure safe and properly maintained public fleet vehicles to the internal service customers. OCFS is a service area of OC Public Works.

    THE OPPORTUNITY
    On an annual basis, OC Fleet Services issues over 180 thousand automotive parts per year at a total value of approximately $3 million to keep County of Orange vehicles moving. The Fleet Services Parts Technician (Warehouse Worker III) is instrumental in facilitating the procurement and issuing of automotive parts for the County's team of Fleet Technicians. As a knowledgeable and customer service-orientated Parts Technician, this position ensures that the right part is provided at the right time to keep part inventories low and reduce waste within a heavy operational automotive shop.

    The job duties include but are not limited to:
    • Maintaining an inventory of diverse automotive parts ranging from simple and easily procured parts to complex and hard to find parts
    • Processing parts orders and routing the requested items to the requestor in a timely manner
    • Communicating and coordinating with vendors and automotive technicians to research and procure necessary items and solve shipping and delivery issues
    • Maintaining accurate and complete records of supplies and parts that are issued and received
    • Reducing waste by implementing and following sound inventory control practices
    • Investigating inventory discrepancies to locate and correct errors
    • Participating in the annual inventory audit and ongoing cycle counts

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
    The ideal candidate will possess experience as an auto parts specialist with one (1) or more years of experience identifying, purchasing, managing, and delivering automotive parts. Possession of an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Parts Specialist certification is highly desirable, but not required.

    In addition to the desirable qualifications, the most successful candidates will possess the following core competencies:

    Technical Experience
    • Extensive knowledge of automotive parts and accessories used in light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles
    • Knowledge of inventory control principles
    • Understanding of and ability to conduct physical counts, cycle counts, and inventory counts
    • Knowledge of the "first-in, first-out" principle of inventory management
    • Knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), fleet management software, inventory control software, and asset management software
    • Familiarity with contracts, invoicing, and procurement

    Organization Skills & Attention to Detail
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
    • Ability to minimize and avoid errors in documentation and inventory counts
    • Ability to juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced, heavy operational shop environment
    • Anticipating and minimizing unexpected issues and situations by promptly resolving and addressing the issue and/or situation
    • Ability to maintain a strong knowledge of stock on hand and request suitable alternate parts if necessary

    Communication & Collaboration
    • Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with a range of individuals, including County employees, outside vendors, retailers, supervisors and managers, both orally and in writing
    • Ability to solve problems and issues with tact and diplomacy
    • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers, vendors and retailers

    Safety Conscious
    • Ability to safely navigate within a heavy operation automotive shop in order to minimize accidents and injuries
    • Knowledge of and ability to utilize safe lifting techniques
    • Ability to safely handle common fluids and chemicals used in automotive shops

    REQUIRED LICENSE
    Possession of a valid California Class C driver license or higher is required by the date of appointment and maintained throughout employment.

    RECRUITMENT PROCESS
    Human Resource Services (HRS) screens all application materials for minimum and/or desirable qualifications.     Proctored Online Assessment (Weighted 100%)
    Applicants whose experience and education appear to best meet the needs of the department will be invited to participate in a proctored online assessment. Only the applicants who receive the highest score on the assessment will be referred to the eligible list.

    Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.

    Eligible List
    Once the assessments have been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
