    Minimum Qualifications
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation with an Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Aviation Management, Airway Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field, plus one (1) year of airport operations work experience.
      OR
    • Three (3) years of experience in the U.S. Military Services, airport operations, or another related aviation field.
      OR
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Aviation Management, Airway Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License.
    • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain Federally-mandated security clearances required to work at an airport.

    POSITION OVERVIEW :

    Airport Operations Specialists (Ramp Control) will manage the aircraft movement on the ramp area of Austin-Bergstorm International Airport in a virtual ramp control setting.

    The candidate should have the skills and acumen to provide the following:
    - Controls movement of aircraft in the terminal apron area, ensuring proper sequencing and separation.
    - Issues push-back, taxi, and safety advisory instructions to aircraft in the non-movement Area of Responsibility (AoR) via air-to-ground radio.
    - Approves requests for push-back of aircraft into taxi lanes on the terminal ramp, ensuring an orderly flow of traffic and prevention of delays.
    - Operates surface movement surveillance system, cameras, radio and other communications systems.
    - Maintains continuous liaison with Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ) ground controller to coordinate aircraft movements.
    - Coordinate with airline operation centers for delays, diversions, problems, and gate assignments.
    - Liaison with AUS Airside Operations staff tasked with shared use gate assignments and aircraft tows to ensure an adequate level of service.
    - Assists in the orientation of new employees and performs on the job training performing and demonstrating the daily job responsibilities.
    - Assists the Ramp Control Supervisor and Airside Operations team with managing, coordinating, and resolving airport emergencies, security problems affecting airport operations.
    - Performs other duties as assigned by the ramp Control Supervisor.

    DRIVING REQUIREMENTS :
    This position requires a Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

    ON- CALL / CALL BACK RESPONSIBILITIES
    Position may require on-call or call back responsibilities.

    SHIFT INCENTIVE :
    Shift work includes shift differential incentive for evening and night shifts and weekends.

    ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL :
    This position is categorized as an Essential Personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work and in some cases when they are not scheduled.

    • Possession of a Control Tower Operator ( CTO ) certificate, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
    • Experience working in airline ground operations at a medium or large hub airport with multiple terminals and taxi lanes.
    • Familiarity with airport-related technology systems, such as airport operational databases ( AODB ), communication systems, and ramp management software.
    • Ability to handle stress in a high-pressure work environment and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Should be able to analyze complex situations, identify solutions, and make informed decisions quickly while considering safety and operational efficiency.


    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    Assists with ensuring the airport is in compliance with 14 CFR Part 139; applicable 150 Series Advisory Circulars (ACs); the ACM ; and other relevant Federal, State, and Local regulations by conducting daily inspections of runways, taxiways, ramps, and other aeronautical areas; and reports unsafe conditions to mitigate hazards. Assists the Airport Duty Manager by responding to, coordinating, and resolving airside emergencies such as alerts, severe weather, irregular operation, security breaches, and other events affecting airport operations in accordance with the Airport Emergency Plan and National Incident Management System ( NIMS ) methodology. Provides escorts and monitors daily work on and near the AOA by other AUS divisions, the Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ), contractors, and other airfield stakeholders to ensure a safe operating environment. Initiates, as necessary, minor corrective actions with the related group(s). Identifies and anticipates operational and safety concerns through continuous surveillance and radio contact with the control tower and ensures timely reporting of hazards. Enforces airport safety policies and procedures. Identifies applicable violations and issues warnings and notices of violation to individuals. Activates Notice to Air Missions (NOTAMs) as required by Federal regulations and maintains an operations log of airfield activities. Observes and reports tenant and airline activities to ensure compliance with airport leases, contracts, standards, policies, and procedures; and reports violations to a supervisor. Assists in daily resource management by performing field inventory of parked aircraft and relaying information to leadership. Assists with the administration of the Ground Support Equipment Registration and Monitoring Program ( GSE RAMP ); maintains inventory of airline equipment, inspecting vehicles, and reporting discrepancies to a supervisor. Provides training on airfield procedures and regulations; assists in the orientation of new hires; performs on-the-job training, performing and demonstrating the duties of the position; and assists with documenting daily evaluations and communicating performance of the trainee to appropriate management. Keeps abreast of all ongoing changes to Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, and regulations related to the position, FAA advisory circulars, Airport Security Program, and Transportation Security Administration ( TSA ) security directives; maintains proficiency by passing regularly scheduled examinations. Operates automated and networked information display systems, video cameras, monitors, radios, and communication systems. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

    • Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 139 and related regulations to manage and maintain aircraft operations.
    • Knowledge of airport property; other facilities within the airport; and aircraft types, size, seating capacity, evacuation routes, etc. to manage operations and emergency events.
    • Knowledge of airport operations sufficient to be able to direct, manage, and control field operations.
    • Knowledge of NIMS to work with other agencies and departments during all airport emergencies.
    • Knowledge of safety and security practices to coordinate and provide security.
    • Knowledge of the simultaneous use of several radio frequencies sufficient to be able to provide and receive information from airport, FAA , airline, and other personnel.
