Why you’ll love this position: This is a support position with primary responsibility to provide operation and logistical support to the Deputy Commissioner of the Financial and Administrative Services Division, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and to the State Board of Education. An individual in this classification may have functional authority over employees performing a wide-range of administrative functions and can expect to exercise significant discretion and autonomy in the performance of duties. Work is often of a highly confidential and sensitive nature. This position has direct contact with all levels of department staff, members of the board, members of the legislature and legislative staff, school administrators, and the public.
Responsibilities associated with the Deputy Commissioner: - Provide operational and logistical support to the deputy.
- Maintain the deputy’s calendar, and prepare travel arrangements, monthly expense reports, other appropriate documentation, etc.
- Prepare, review, and edit correspondence, documents, reports and forms for the deputy’s signature and/or approval.
Responsibilities associated with the State Board of Education (board): - Provide operational and logistical support to the board.
- Make travel arrangements, including flights, for the board members, as appropriate; and provide detailed travel itineraries for board members when they travel out of state.
- Serve as liaison between board members and the department.
- Proofread board agenda items to ensure proper format and grammatical structure.
- Post board material to the department’s website.
- Attend board meetings and take minutes.
- Serve as custodian of records for the State Board of Education.
- Schedule State Board of Education meeting room.

- Possess work experience that has prepared an individual to perform the duties of executive assistant to upper management.
- Five years of progressively responsible support tasks of which at least two years involve the direct support to upper management within an organization.
