    JOB SUMMARY
    The Leak Detection Technician is responsible for conducting surveys of water distribution systems by operating complex electronic equipment to locate visible and non-visible water leaks. The Leak Detection Technician works under general supervision. This job has an automatic progression plan. An employee hired as a Leak Detection Tech will automatically advance to Senior Leak Detection Tech upon reaching 5 years of continuous experience as a Leak Detection Technician with SAWS and a Minimum Performance Rating of “Achieves”.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Operates complex acoustic and electronic leak detection equipment to assist in accurately pinpointing water leak locations.
    • Reads and evaluates water distribution system maps to assist in leak detection survey.
    • Applies Leak Detection principals, practices and procedures.
    • Troubleshoots and diagnoses repairs to system infrastructure using leak detection equipment.
    • Interprets and analyzes leak detection data.
    • Performs data entry into third party applications in support of satellite leak detection.
    • Facilitates interdepartmental teamwork.
    • Trains and mentors other employees.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    DECISION MAKING
    • Works under general supervision.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Six (6) months experience performing basic maintenance and/or construction in a water distribution or wastewater collection system or similar work environment.
    • Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License.
    • Perform position specific physical testing to include ability to successfully pass a hearing screening to include Audiometry and/or Pure Tone Testing.
    • Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.
    JOB DIMENSIONS
    • Basic PC skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
    • Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve skills levels.
    • Ability to exercise extreme caution and understanding of safety policies and procedures.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and public relations.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
    Physical requirements include lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 55 pounds occasionally. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling, and working in cramped and strained positions for long periods of time to perform job scope.

    Working conditions are primarily outside, exposed to wet, humid, or extreme weather conditions; slippery, uneven surfaces; excessive noise; heavy traffic; and animals, snakes and poisonous insects. Operates company vehicle on a daily basis.

    May be required to work hours other than regular daytime schedules such as weekends, holidays, nights, on-call, and in emergency response situations.
