    Wake County's Public Health Clinics offer health care for children and adults, ranging from treatment to education. Wake County's main public health clinics are in the Public Health Center located at 10 Sunnybrook Road, Raleigh (at the intersection of New Bern Avenue and Sunnybrook Road, near WakeMed). Some services provided at the Public Health Center are also provided at other locations.

    The Child Health Certified Medical Assistant position is part of a team that provides mandated immunization and care to newborns and children. This CMA primarily works with the pediatric population. This position provides care and treatment to children and following Standing Orders, Policies, Guidelines and Procedures.

    Essential functions:

    • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team achieving patient/client outcomes and goals as established by WCHS
    • Carry out CMA functions per clinic policies and standing orders
    • Enter vaccinations into the North Carolina Immunization Registry
    • The position is located within a fast-paced public health clinic and works with a diverse patient population. This position would follow NCIP guidelines

    NOTE: Upon acceptance of employment you acknowledge that (i) if you work in the Health Clinics and Public Health Division, influenza immunization is a condition of initial and continued employment, subject to compliance with federal law, (ii) actively supports and participates in department emergency preparedness and response activities, which may include temporary changes in responsibilities and working hours.

    In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Six months of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
    • CPR, CMA Certificate; successful completion of a medical assistant training program through an accredited school recognized by the United States Department Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or equivalent medical assistant certification through on the job training and preceptorship by a RN and successful completion of the certification exam
    • Equivalent education and experience are NOT accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Bilingual/Spanish language skills
    • Immunization experience administering vaccines to teens and children
    • Knowledge of vaccine schedules
    • Experience working independently in a clinic setting
    • Experience following standing protocols for providing patient care
