    Minimum Qualifications
    Power System Engineer
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering, plus five (5) years of experience related to engineering.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • None.


    Power System Engineer Senior
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering, plus seven (7) years of experience related to engineering.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, the ability to obtain a Texas PE license within one (1) year of employment.

    Position Description:
    This position serves as a subject matter expert in the Project Management team supporting Transmission and Substation Engineering and Construction. The Project Management team is responsible for managing and coordinating the Capital Improvement Project portfolio for Austin Energy. While a solid understanding of the equipment, design, and operation of these electrical assets is beneficial, the majority of the issues encountered are not specific to supplying electrical power. An aptitude and willingness to learn the electric utility industry including understanding design, operation, and maintenance are required. Working knowledge and a solid understanding of the following are essential to the project management success of every project: City finance processes, local and state permitting processes and requirements, easement acquisition processes, and interface with other city departments and governmental agencies.

    This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:


    • Power System Engineer: $42.26 - $54.94
    • Power System Engineer Senior: $48.38 - $62.90

    Work Schedule:
    • Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends.

    Fair Labor Standards Act:

    This position is considered FLSA Exempt. Exempt employees are salaried and, except as provided, are not eligible for overtime compensation.

    Work Location:

    This position may offer the ability to work remotely. Ability to work remotely is not a guarantee, and may be adjusted in the future depending on the work group needs and adherence to Austin Energy Telework Policy.

    Critical:
    This position has been designated as a Critical Employee position. Critical Employees are considered necessary and vital and supports activities that impact City or department operations. This work can be done while at a designated work site or while working at an alternate work location. Critical employees who are able to work at an alternative work location are required to do so. Schedules may be modified, and employees may be reassigned to another area during extraordinary situations or emergency conditions to provide essential services.

    Pay Range
    PS Engr $42.26 - $54.94
    PS Engr Sr $48.38 - $62.90

    Hours
    Monday to Friday
    8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a flexible telework/in-office schedule.

    Overtime as business needs require.

    Preferred Experience:
    • Current PMP or project management experience for at least three years
    • Experience managing the design and construction of multi-million-dollar utility or civil engineering projects

    • Experience managing and coordinating multiple construction projects
    • Experience with public speaking and presenting to diverse groups such as councils, committees, review groups, governing or regulating bodies, and neighborhood/community groups
    • Experience managing large diverse teams including your company’s staff and outside staff / consultants

    City Government
