    Minimum Qualifications
    This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:

    Graduate Engineer B
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in engineering.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • Engineer-In-Training ( EIT ) Certification in the State of Texas,

    OR
    • If certified in another state, must have the ability to obtain Texas EIT certification within six (6) months of employment.


    Engineer A
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.


    Engineer B
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus six (6) years of experience in engineering acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

    POSITION OVERVIEW :

    The position is a member of Localized Drainage Improvement Team 1 in the Project Design and Delivery ( PDD ) branch of the department. We are looking for dynamic individuals to join our team to advance our mission of protecting life, property, and the environment from the effects of flooding, erosion, and water pollution. The work of this design team includes designing and sponsoring large Capital Improvement Program projects and designing smaller in-house projects to reduce risk of flooding and erosion, and protect water quality in our creeks, with a focus on localized flooding and improvements to storm drain systems.

    This position is responsible for performing feasibility studies to assess potential solutions to drainage issues, identifying and implementing small scale mitigation solutions, developing Hydrologic and Hydraulic models, conducting technical reviews, and assisting other engineering staff with the final design and construction phases of Capital Improvement Program (CIPs) projects and in-house projects. This position may also assist with efforts to identify and prioritize potential projects and activities for the division. This position may be required to perform post-flood reconnaissance.

    SALARY :
    This position is posted at multiple levels and will be filled based on qualifications.
    Graduate Engineer B- $35.50 | $45.27
    Engineer A- $39.49 | $51.34
    Engineer B- $42.26 | $54.94

    PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION / LICENSE REQUIRED :
    Graduate Engineer B: Engineer-In-Training ( EIT ) Certification in the State of Texas, OR if certified in another state, must have the ability to obtain Texas EIT certification within six (6) months of employment.

    Engineer A- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

    Engineer B- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

    Hours

    40 hours per week, Monday - Friday with the ability for a 60% telework schedule per week after initial training period. Exceptions may apply subject to the business needs of the department.

    May require working outside of normal business hours, including emergency events, evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by business needs.

    Preferred Experience:
    • Preferred candidate will have a knowledge of municipal regulatory drainage code and criteria such as the City of Austin’s Drainage Criteria Manual.
    • Preferred candidate should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis including 1D and 2D modeling of primarily storm drain systems and open channels, including experience and proficiency with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software such as StormCAD, CivilStorm, ICM , HEC - RAS , HEC - HMS , etc.
    • Experience with design, construction, and project management of drainage infrastructure projects.
    • Experience working with field crews.
    • Experience in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
    • Ability to travel to more than work location.
