    For employees belonging to the Inglewood Management Employee Organization (IMEO), a 5% salary increase will take effect on January 1, 2025 .

    POSITION

    Under general supervision of the Human Services Superintendent, participates in and supervises staff engaged in the production and delivery of food for the Senior Nutrition operation covering Inglewood, Hawthorne, Lennox, and Ladera Senior Centers.

    TASKS
    • Monitors contract services, resolves program issues, and oversees the work activities of the Food Service staff to include the hot and frozen meals-on-wheels program;
    • Plans, oversees, controls environment, monitors and organizes food service, meal production, delivery, and central kitchen;
    • Provide training by multi-media on-the-job instruction, in-service presentations, and off-site seminars assigned to staff.
    • Coordinates services and quality assurance programs with CNS dietitian, site managers, caterers, seniors, city staff, and others that may affect the food service operation;
    • Manages food supply budget and administers contracts to serve the specified number of meals;
    • Maintains records of meals served and donations collected;
    • Plans, develops and implements strategies for identifying and generating funding and/or resource opportunities for program activities, including the development of grant and other fundraising proposals.
    • Resolves day-to-day program-related needs;


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Associate's degree or professional certifications in Nutrition, Food & Beverage Services, or a closely related field AND four (4) years experience in large quantity food production, preparation food service, and packaging, including two (2) years at a lead level. Must be certified as a Food Protection Manager by the LA-County Department of Public Health and maintain a valid Food Handler’s Certificate, Dietetic Technician Certificate, and California Driver’s License.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
    • Knowledge of food services program management methods and techniques, of safe food handling guidelines and procedures, and of contract compliance, grant, and budget procedures; Knowledgeable of applicable city, county, state, and federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, regulations and other governing rules, and budget and grant management principles and techniques;
    • Skilled in resolving day-to-day program-related needs, scheduling, delegating, and monitoring work assignments to staff, developing and creating food recipes and menus, preparing comprehensive and accurate reports; assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, providing and following oral and written instructions in English, and in establishing and maintaining positive and productive working relationships;
    • Ability to organize job duties, interpret policies, and work independently while supervising staff; exercise initiative and sound logical judgment in decision-making; prepare comprehensive reports and present ideas clearly and concisely in written and oral form, motivate, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, volunteers, other community agencies;
    • Proficient in operating personal computer hardware/software applications, including WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, OUTLOOK, and other industry-related software and electronic devices.


    THE SELECTION PROCESS

    Applicants whose experience best meets the city's needs will be invited to participate in the examination for this position. Candidates must have access to a computer with internet, video, and audio capabilities to participate in our examination process.

    The examination may consist of one or more of the following: (1) Training & Experience Evaluation, (2) Writing Exercise, and (3) Qualifications Appraisal Interview with a panel of subject matter experts. Candidates must receive a score of 70 or higher to have their names placed on the active eligibility list for one year. The top three ranks on the Eligibility List will have their application materials forwarded to the hiring authority for a selection interview.
