Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.
What you’ll do: - Trains and supervises personnel in performing varied bridge maintenance tasks including superstructure, substructure and expansion device repairs, concrete replacement, bridge deck repair, erection of structural steel beams, steel fabrication, and related activities.
- Trains and supervises crews in the cleaning and painting of structural steel bridges, and the handling and transporting of hazardous waste.
- Directs the set up of the work site, including traffic control devices such as signs, flags, cones, and arrow boards; directs flagging responsibilities for traffic through work zones.
- Directs training of the crew on bridge maintenance procedures, safety, equipment operations, traffic control, and emergency procedures; reviews work progress of crew.
- Assigns and supervises routine cleaning and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment; contacts service representatives for repairs as needed.
All you need for success:Minimum Qualifications - High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with no air brake restriction and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate [EI] or Non-Excepted Interstate [NI])
- Employee will be required to pass a cardiopulmonary function test yearly, attend training on the use of respirators, and pass a respirator fit test every six months.
- Seven years of experience in bridge maintenance, special maintenance, or bridge inspection.
- Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.
Special Working Conditions: - Job requires heavy physical exertion and effort.
- Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable environments.
- Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow or spread ice control materials.
