The Community Outreach Specialist at the Board of Elections and Voter Registration (BVRE) office plays a critical role in engaging and educating the community about elections and the voting process, in addition to supporting early voting and candidate filing for all elections.
HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $19.34 - $25.32OPEN UNTIL FILLED - APPLICATION REVIEW BEGINS IMMEDIATELYDuties and ResponsibilitiesThis position will be responsible for the following content and activities under the guidance and supervision of the Community Engagement Coordinator:
Community Outreach- Strengthen current partnerships by growing existent programs and explore new opportunities to expand BVRE’s reach.
- Strategize with the direct supervisor about opportunities for growing partnerships
- Seek out new community partnerships with non-partisan organizations.
- Support community engagement programming.
- Create and maintain a database of community partners.
- Cultivate relationships with local businesses that can provide support and exposure.
Voter Education- Create and distribute educational materials such as brochures, flyers, and digital content to inform the public about elections and voting.
- Work with the Marketing and Communications Manager to disseminate timely and accurate information through communication channels, including social media, email campaigns, and the elections office website.
- Review website routinely to ensure information is current and accessible.
Events- Attend outreach events as a representative of BVRE.
- Prepare and support staff attending outreach events.
- Track and report on outreach activities, program effectiveness, and community feedback.
Early Voting Location Management- Manage an off-site early voting location.
- Oversee approximately 10-20 early voting workers.
Minimum Qualifications- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, political science, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in community outreach, public relations, or a similar role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Other Requirements:
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for outreach events and during elections.
- Valid SC driver’s license.
