Parks & Recreation Skatepark Intern Posting Expires: November 25, 2024 Salary: $19.50/hour General Description and Classification Standards The purpose of this job is to fulfill the Activate ATL Master Plan and Strategic Plan goals to Invest, Connect and Grow the City of Atlanta parks and recreation system. Specifically, assisting with development and community engagement for new skate parks as well as evaluating the condition of DPR existing parks and facilities to be identified in the Parks of Greatest Need List.
Duties include by are not limited to: Engaging the community at in-person and virtual meetings, assisting with park quality evaluations park, collecting data on park amenities, and other duties as assigned. The intern must be capable of working independently and/or in small groups to carry out assignments typical in the planning profession. This includes data collection, data entry and analysis.
In this position, the employee will need to familiarize themselves with the following:
- Department goals to Invest, Connect and Grow the City’s park and recreation system.
- Park planning assessments.
- Ongoing planning and efforts to maintain equity systemwide.
- Community involvement and user satisfaction
- Assets in land, staffing and equipment to meet the system’s goals.
- Partnerships with other city departments and organizations to understand the DPR operations.
- Data-driven framework for evaluating parks and recreation equity, including the use of greenspace and community need indicators representing social determinants of health to improve residents’ quality of life.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities : This position will be in the DPR Office of (Park Design and reports to the DPR Urban Planner.
Duties include the following:
- Collaborating with DPR Park Design staff on the approach to complete park evaluations.
- Conducting site evaluations of DPR park lands and recreation facilities.
- Performing inventory the park amenities.
- Promoting compliance of organizational policies and procedures.
- Working with contractors and other partners to develop new amenities in parks.
- Attending program/staff meetings designated by supervisor.
- Attending public meetings.
- Recording notes.

Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience - High school diploma or GED required.
- Admittance letter into a post-secondary program OR some college attendance.
- Must pass background checks for criminal and child protective findings.
- Must pass a drug screening.
Additional Information Must attend City of Atlanta and DPR required training.
Interns will be required to work 3-4 hours as assigned over the assignment period.

Essential Capabilities and Work Environment Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully.
Must be able to drive and to walk COA park trails of varying topography.
Typical environmental conditions associated with job include natural outdoor conditions (50%) and office conditions (50%).
