DescriptionSALARY $31.65 - $38.46 Hourly
Under supervision, sells Bakersfield with the purpose of increasing convention and meeting sales, and group and individual leisure travel. Assists the Convention and Visitors Bureau Manager in the promotion of Bakersfield through the sales of conferences, conventions, and meetings to be held at the Rabobank Arena, Theatre, and Convention Center and various lodging properties and other meeting venues in Bakersfield, and through group and individual leisure travel developed from partnerships with local lodging and other travel partners. Performs other work as assigned.
Representative DutiesSuccessfully sells Bakersfield as a convention, conference, meeting, group, and individual leisure destination; Assists in developing and implementing a convention sales plan and budget; Develops and researches qualified leads that lead to potential conventions, conferences, meetings, and group tours; Manages leads, calls on prospects at their place of business, prepares bid presentations for national, state, regional, and local groups; Develops sales incentives to participate in convention-related groups and organizations that book conventions and meetings; Works closely with local lodging establishments and local attractions to promote amenities and events to potential visitors and meeting attendees;

Minimum QualificationsApplications will be accepted

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sociology, Business or Public Administration, Community Studies, or a related field; AND
- Two (2) years of relevant experience in sales and marketing, preferably in the hospitality or convention industry; OR
- An equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the capabilities to perform the described job duties.
- Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license.
- Possession of a valid passport must be obtained within the six-month probationary period.
- Other travel documents may be subsequently required depending on travel requirements.

VACATION: Accrual rate is determined by bargaining unit.
1-4 years of service: 10 days per year.
5-13 years of service: 15 days per year.
14+ years of service: 20 days per year.
VACATION - FIRE SAFETY SHIFT PERSONNEL ONLY:
1-4 years of service: 4.68 (24-hr. duty shifts)
5-15 years of service: 7.02 (24-hr. duty shifts)
16+ years of service: 9.36 (24-hr. duty shifts)
HOLIDAYS: 13 paid holidays per year.
SICK LEAVE: Earned at the rate of one working day per month of service to a maximum of 120 days; portions therafter may be convertible.
ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE: 10 days per year for General Supervisory and Management employees.

RETIREMENT: Benefits are provided by the City's participation in the Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS). 2% @ 62 for new hire Miscellaneous and 2.7% @ 57 for Safety (Fire & Police). Visit the City's Retirement websitefor additional information.
