The Position

Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is recruiting for Mental Health Counselor II at Northern Nevada Child and Adolescent Services (NNCAS) located in Reno, Nevada for the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Services and Children's Clinical Services programs. This position provides psychotherapy and targeted case management for children and youth inclusive of primary caregivers/family birth to 18 years. Mental Health Counselors are provided training in implementing evidence-based treatment models for child and family therapy within a trauma-informed and relational foundation. Mental Health Counselors review records, complete assessments, prepare treatment plans, discuss child/family treatment during clinical supervision/consultation, administer individual and standardized assessments, integrate and analyze information from all available sources, document quality of care, ensure information is available to other members of the treatment team by completing required forms and report and maintain documentation to ensure compliance with established laws, regulations, policies and standards of care. Clinical experience with children, youth, and their families is preferred. Nevada Licensure or Post-Graduate Intern approval in clinical fields of MFT, CPC, or LCSW or licenses Post-Doctoral Associate Psychologist is required. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a Master's degree and experience as described above. Special Notes Some positions require specialized training and experience working with specific client populations. Special Requirements Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor issued by the appropriate licensing or certification authority is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Moderate travel is required. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria The incumbent, including those hired into a position as an underfill, must be actively working toward a valid license (e.g., LMFT, LPC, LCSW) and/or have a current internship license, as a condition of employment.
