    Introduction

    This position Inspects airport facility conditions to ensure safe, efficient airport operations and that maintenance, emergency, and security functions are compatible with local, state, and federal regulations.

    Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this positio n is $27.33 p er hour.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • A High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
    • Six months of airport operations experience and/or aviation training.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/service assignment.

    Essential Functions

    • Inspects airport facilities on foot, in motor vehicle, or by using the airfield closed circuit television system; reports deficiencies, corrects and/or initiates follow up corrective action.
    • Acts as an overnight security presence; monitors and records late night aircraft activity, inventory, and record-based and transient aircraft.
    • Maintains detailed written daily operations log/shift summary of inspections, incident reports, and aircraft activity reports. Makes numerous database entries into the aviation database regarding inspections, incidents, landing fees, etc.
    • Communicates face-to-face and by radio with airport users including tenants, general public, tower personnel, co-workers, and emergency agencies on airport safety procedures and regulations.
    • Responds to airfield incidents/accidents.
    • Enforces airfield rules and regulations; investigates and follows up on complaints; issues notices of violation.
    • Performs minor maintenance duties in support of the operations/maintenance unit requiring operating equipment and performing manual labor.

    • Inspect airport facilities on foot, in motor vehicle, or viewing monitors.
    • Use construction, maintenance tools, and equipment.
    • Visual and muscular dexterity to perform manual labor on an on-going basis.
    • Visual and muscular dexterity to operate equipment and two-way radio.
    • Drive a motorized cart or vehicle to inspect and secure airport grounds, perform minor maintenance duties, and respond to airfield incidents/accidents.
    • Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Exposure to darkness, dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant odors.
    • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
    • Work days, evenings, nights, weekends, mandatory overtime, and holidays.

    PLEASE NOTE: Years of experience are based on a work schedule of 2,080 hours per year for full-time positions and 1,040 hours per year for part-time positions, and while work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis, depending upon the job classification, education may not be substituted for work experience.
