Job Summary Under general direction, the Development Services Representative performs technical, clerical, and public contact work in the preparation and processing of various types of building and construction permits and licenses for the City of Bryan Development Services Department. This position is highly visible, involving frequent contact with the general public.
Essential Job Functions - Provides a wide variety of information to the public over-the-counter and by phone regarding inspections, permits, fees, building codes, and City regulations and procedures.
- Processes and maintains all development-related permits, contractor registrations, inspection records, and provides direct administrative support, and general customer service.
- Collects fees and issues receipts; balances and reconciles receipts to monies collected at the end of each business day.
- Maintains a variety of logs and records on permits, fees, and inspection schedules.
- Reviews forms and submitted materials for basic compliance and completion.
- Assists staff and the public in securing releases and other required certificates.
- Collects and assembles a variety of information and statistical data to maintain and prepare periodic reports of activities and fee collection.
- Maintains plan, permit, fee, inspection and related files.
- Prepares and issues completion and release documents.
- Accepts and logs complaints on building violations.
- Maintains and administers inspection scheduling system.
- Acts as liaison between the department, the general public, and contractors.
- Organizes and maintains electronic and paper departmental files and records using LaserFiche scanning software. Ensures compliance with records retention guidelines.
- Assists in the procurement of department supplies and materials.
- Serves as backup for Development Services Staff Assistants.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities, as required.
- Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- High School Diploma or GED ; some additional training and/or course work in business, public or office administration is a plus.
- At least two (2) years of work experience in a banking, accounting/billing, clerical, retail, and/or call center related position.
Preferred:
- Cash handling experience.
- Municipal government experience.
Equivalent combinations of education, experience, certification, and training may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements Must be able to obtain International Code Council ( ICC ) Permit Technician Certification within reasonable time frame set by the department.
