Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreations Department, Natural Resources Management Division located at 6901 Elmwood Ave
Salary Range: $20.10-$30.64/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Responsibilities
- Operates trucks on road maintenance and street repair work hauling cold patch, hot asphalt, gravel, rocks and abrasives.
- Drives trucks in transporting personnel and materials to designated work sites.
- Operates pickup and other trucks in the scheduled pickup and delivery of mail and supplies to assigned departmental district headquarters.
- Deposits lights and barricade sat designated locations.
- Operates rodding and bucket machines in cleaning sanitary sewers.
- Operates flusher truck cleaning and flushing streets and thoroughfares.
- Drives a truck engaged in street-cleaning activities.
- Participates in snow plowing and snow removal operations.
- Drives trucks for tree crews.
- Assists in loading brush and in general cleanup of an area where dead trees are removed.
- Operates power saw, stump grinder, tree sprayer and other related equipment.
- Drives refuse or flat-bed trucks on established route in picking up garbage and trash.
- Operates packing and dumping controls.
- Supervises assigned collection crew.
- Keeps time records and sees that assigned collection truck is serviced and maintained properly.
- Assists subordinates in the collection of garbage and trash.
- Drives a truck with a flat-bed trailer for hauling construction equipment.
- Drives construction equipment on and off lo-boy units.
- Operates a large construction tractor or crawler-type bulldozer in pulling a sheep's foot compacting street and road sub-grades.
- Operates a heavy motor-driven street sweeper.
- Sweeps streets and gutters on assigned routes.
- Fills water tank at regular intervals and regulates valves controlling water spraying in front of the sweeper.
- Dumps sweeper piles where they can be easily picked up.
- Operates medium grade tractors in the mowing of grass, parks and vacant lots, and chain saws in the cutting of tree branches and limbs.
- Operates spray equipment in conjunction with pesticide operations.
- Operates a heavy power-driven roller in patching and ironing asphalt street surfaces.
- Operates a front-end loader up to 2-1/2 cubic yard inches loading sweeper piles, broken pipe, dirt, rocks and debris.
- Leads helper who assists in loading operations.
- Operates a backhoe in trenching, filling or other minor excavation.
- Plans and executes work to avoid damage to underground pipes and cables carefully.
- Makes field repairs to equipment, and as necessary, assists machinists and mechanics on major repairs.
- Services assigned equipment with fuel, oil, water and grease
- Operates a heavy paint machine in striping and painting center lines on streets.
- Adjusts and repairs paint equipment so as to properly line streets with paint and reflector beads.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
REQUIRES 6 months of experience in the operation of trucks and other specialized automotive equipment. Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. May be required to possess a valid Missouri Class A, B or C CDL prior to the end of probationary period. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
