    The Position

    Bargaining Unit: CNA - Registered Nurses Unit

    Contra Costa Health Services is recruiting to fill one (1) permanent part-time (24 hour per week) Advice Nurse position in the Contra Costa Health Plan (CCHP) division located in Martinez, CA. This part-time position is eligible to receive County benefits (medical, dental, vision, paid time off, etc.)

    Advice Nurses assess the needs of over 200,000 patients, including members of the Contra Costa Health Plan, patients from contracting counties, and all users of the County ambulatory care services. Advice Nurses document telephone calls and make referrals, apply clinical judgement within established nursing standards and protocols, interview patients and callers to learn more about the issue, contact the Health Plan authorization office to determine benefit limitations and consider patient care, and instruct patients for home care for themselves or for family members.

    Candidates must be available to work evening, night, and weekend shifts on a rotating schedule. Eligible candidates who successfully pass the County language fluency examination may receive a monthly bilingual differential depending upon assignment.

    What you will typically be responsible for:
    • Utilizing nursing processes to establish priorities and to refer patients to the proper level of care
    • Making appointments, providing home care advice, or referring out to other services
    • Informing doctors of issues needing attention that are outside the scope of advice nurse protocols
    • Updating computer entries to reflect current patient registration data

    • The Advice Nurse Unit is part of the Emergency Disaster Operations Team and becomes the resource unit for all of the County during a natural disaster and pandemic

    Minimum Qualifications

    License Required: Possession of a Valid License as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.

    Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or its equivalent experience as a telephone triage Registered Nurse; Or a Registered Nurse in one of the following areas of an acute care hospital: medical surgical unit, labor and delivery unit, post partum unit, pediatric unit, intensive or critical care unit, emergency department; Or a Registered Nurse in a surgery center or urgent care facility; Or a Registered Nurse in a maternal child health, home health, public health setting, or in nursing case management.

    Typing: Ability to accurately type at a speed of not less than 30 words per minute.

    Certificate: Possession of a Pharmacology certificate administered by the Contra Costa Health Services Department.

    Desirable Qualifications:
    Certification or experience as an Advice Nurse

    Selection Process

    1. Application Filing and Evaluation: All applicants must apply online at www.cccounty.us/hr and submit the information as indicated on the job announcement by the final filing date. Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of filing. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.

    2. Online Typing Test: Applicants must complete a timed typing test validating the ability to type at least 30 actual net words per minute.

    3. Training and Experience Evaluation: Candidates who clearly demonstrate that they possess the minimum qualifications will have their training and experience evaluated. The responses to the supplemental questions, at the time of filing, will be evaluated to determine each candidate's relevant education, training, and/or experience as presented on the application and supplemental questionnaire. (Weighted 100%)

    The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

    CONVICTION HISTORY

    DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
    All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
