    The construction technician provides semi-skilled technical or paraprofessional support in connection with the construction of engineering projects. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

    MoDOT will bring candidates onto the team as entry-level, intermediate, or senior level, based on your skills and experience. If you are hired as an entry-level Construction Technician, this opening is for one of our CAREER-LADDER positions which offers the opportunity for career advancement without having to participate in the competitive selection interview process. As you continue to learn, acquire new skills, and gain experience, you can be promoted to a higher-level position.

    What you’ll do:

    • Performs basic construction tests such as air, slump, moisture, compaction, aggregate gradation, and density; reports results to supervisor.
    • Performs measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, and contractor payment estimates.
    • Assists in inspection of bituminous and portland cement concrete plants and/or grading, base, bituminous or concrete paving.
    • Maintains records and prepares reports pertaining to inspections; keeps supervisor informed of activities or unusual conditions; ensures projects meet department standards.
    • Enters and records information regarding construction projects into computer programs.


    All you need for success:

    • High School Diploma or GED/HiSET.
    • Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.


    Special Working Conditions:

    • Job requires moderate physical activity.
    • Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
    • Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
