Description***THIS IS A 90 TEMPORARY POSITION*** Vacancy (90 Day Temporary position) is in the Disease Prevention Health Promotion Division in the Department of Health and Human Services. Under direction, provides medical care and treatment to assigned patients in a public health clinic. Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines. Examines patients and performs appropriate medical screening procedures. Refers patients with abnormal conditions or other medical concerns for additional services. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests. Provides health education and counseling. Makes referrals to specialized health resources for treatment. Recommends drugs or other forms of treatment. Consults with the Medical Director, the State and other health professionals. Prepares detailed records of clinical activities, formulates plans for individual patients. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesThe examination will consist of rating of your training and experience as contained on your application and may also include a written test, an oral test or both. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination is designated to measure the following:
Knowledge of:- Theory, principles, methods and techniques of community health nursing with particular reference to programs and activities related to a major program of the Health Department, such as pediatrics or family planning
- Various community facilities and resources available for the treatment and care of the physically and mentally ill
- Causes, methods of transmission, treatment and control of communicable diseases.
Ability to:- Supervise subordinate personnel
- Plan and carry out staff development and orientation
- Express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, clients, representatives of other agencies and the general public.
Qualifications Open to all applicants who meet the following qualifications: Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing from an accredited college or university, supplemented by successful completion of Nurse Practitioner training
AND two (2) years of responsible professional nursing experience, including one (1) year related in Disease Prevention Health program of the Health Department, such as pediatrics or family planning.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a license as a Registered Nurse as issued by the State of Connecticut.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions Work is performed in a clinical setting with occasional travel to various community settings. May be required to respond to emergency situations. May be exposed to body fluids and infectious diseases. May be required to work with clinically challenging client population.
