    California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system.     Computer Science and Engineering permeates every aspect of human endeavor, and thus it is a truly interdisciplinary field. Computer Science is fast growing, and its graduates are in demand in our community and nation-wide. We respond to this demand by teaching our students with a “hands-on” and “problem-solving” approach, and we strive to give our students a strong grounding in the fundamental science of computing, as well as the necessary technical knowledge to succeed in the job market. As the field is fast growing, we realize that we serve our students best by being top experts in our respective research fields.     About the Position:

    The Computer Science Program at California State University Channel Islands invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position to begin August 2025. We are actively seeking exceptional candidates with a strong background in Computer Science, with a teaching and research specialization in Cybersecurity. A demonstrated capacity to collaborate effectively within diverse teams to tackle significant societal challenges is also expected.

    All tenure-track faculty are expected to adopt a scholar/teacher model and maintain an active and current research agenda while teaching and providing service to the University. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach Cybersecurity courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in addition to other Computer Science courses.

    Tenure-eligible faculty are expected to build a strong research program in their chosen area and to be dedicated teachers, contributing to course offerings at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

    Minimum Degree Requirements:

    A Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field. All-but-defended Ph.D. candidates are invited to apply, but the degree must be completed by the start of the appointment.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Earned doctorate in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field, prior to the date of hire
    • Research and scholarly expertise in Cybersecurity or a closely related field
    • Demonstrated expertise and ability to teach Cybersecurity courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels • Commitment to teaching excellence
    • Ability to communicate effectively with both students and colleagues in written and verbal forms
    • Commitment to effectively engage with, mentor, and advise a diverse student population with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.
    • Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Expertise with real-world Cybersecurity tools and systems
    • Experience teaching and performing research in the area of Cybersecurity
    • Experience in developing Cybersecurity related curricula
    • Record of active high-impact research, engagement, and leadership in their chosen field
    • Experience employing culturally relevant pedagogy in which effective engagement and learning occur among a racially diverse student population
    • Experience with creating a student-centered learning environment(s)
    • Experience with adopting inclusive approaches to advising or mentoring
    • Experience in or potential to do research in the area of Cybersecurity that includes working with students from racially diverse backgrounds
    • Record of involvement in securing extramural research funding, especially at the federal level


    Responsibilities:

    Faculty success at CSUCI is measured by three criteria: teaching effectiveness; contributions to one’s field of study through publishing research, scholarly, and creative activities; and service to the Department, University, and Community. Responsibilities include:
    • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Computer Science and Cybersecurity. The standard teaching assignment is 12 units (3 - 4 courses per semester); however, new probationary faculty in their first two years teach 9 units per semester (2 - 3 courses per semester) + Pursuing funded research and scholarly publications
    • Assisting in the development of new academic programs related to Computer Science and Cybersecurity
    • Pursuing appropriate industrial collaboration

    Starting salaries at CSU Channel Islands are equity-minded and are generally at the lower half of the salary range.
