    Minimum Qualifications

    • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Information Science, Computer Science, Electronics, or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years experience working in a business process/systems analysis environment, two (2) years of which were in a lead capacity.


    • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.

    The Enterprise Architect works with IT to evaluate and assess changes to the technical eco-system of Austin Energy. The EA works with coworkers to determine the critical elements of a change to the current technical systems, and then create drawings in the Austin Energy reference library, using the SPARX tool. Additionally, the EA works with potential vendors to determine Net Present Value analysis across multiple potential solution providers to determine basic budgetary information for customers. EAs work with BRMs, PMO , and Operations teams describing technology changes and explaining the drawings they have made from inception to implementation.

    This position is classified as EXEMPT and may require to work additional hours outside of the normal schedule to include nights, weekends, and /or holidays.

    TRAVEL :
    If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    CRITICAL :

    This position has been designated as a Critical Employee position. Critical Employees are considered necessary and vital and supports activities that impact City or department operations. This work can be done while at a designated work site or while working at an alternate work location. Critical employees who are able to work at an alternative work location are required to do so. Schedules may be modified, and employees may be reassigned to another area during extraordinary situations or emergency conditions to provide essential services.
    Pay Range
    $48.38 - $62.90

    Hours
    Work Schedule Notes:
    • Monday - Friday.
    • 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. - 40 Hour Work Week.
    • Additional work hours may be required to support the 24-hour Utility operations, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, inclement weather and emergency closures.

    Preferred Qualifications:


    • Current certification in TOGAF Level 1 and 2 or the ability to obtain on within 6 months of hire.
    • Advanced experience with SPARX , PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
    • Ability to fluently communicate (reading, writing, speaking) in the English language.
    • Strong technical background and experience in application development, security, infrastructure and middleware.
    • Direct Enterprise Architecture experience.
    • Experience using a scripting language (e.g., PYTHON or CSHELL ).
    • Experience creating Net Present Value analysis.


    Other:
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

    Provides overall direction, guidance, and definition of technology architecture to effectively support business strategy. Develops the enterprise viewpoint, in which the business, information and technology viewpoints are synthesized into solutions that deliver capabilities to the broader City. Develops, reviews, and leads the implementation plan for the enterprise architecture based on requirements and strategies. Reviews existing processes and establishes metrics to improve processes, as well as support of all architectural disciplines under their direction. Leads analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on the enterprise architecture. Ensures the integration of all aspects of architecture across the City IT organization and alignment with business strategies, objectives, and capability needs. Leads the development of holistic blueprints in coordination with domain architects. Participates in the business strategic planning cycle, gaining an understanding of common issues, drivers, imperatives, and objectives across the enterprise. Coordinates with other plans and strategic partners, identifying opportunities for shared solutions. Provides architectural leadership, guidance, and support for the broader architectural community.

    • Knowledge of basic graphical modeling approaches, tools and model repositories.
    • Knowledge of information management practices, system development life cycle management, IT services management, agile and lean methodologies, infrastructure and operations, and EA and ITIL frameworks.
    • Knowledge of architecture methodologies (e.g., SABSA , Zachman, TOGAF ) and modeling languages (such as UML and ArchiMate).
    • Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA , APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven IT and predictive analytics.

    • Skill in financial analysis, architecture evaluation, solutions delivery orchestration, project management, architecture frameworks, road mapping, risk management, and interdependency management skills.
    • Skill in leading infrastructure architecture, cloud computing architecture, and integration framework and pattern skills.
    • Ability to establish, implement, and enforce appropriate IT standards to meet business requirements.
    • Ability to build consensus among stakeholders.
    • Ability to balance the long-term (“big picture”) and short-term implications of individual decisions and organization goals.

    City Government
