NO WITHHOLDS OR OUT-OF-CLASS EXPERIENCE ARE ALLOWED FOR THIS EXAMINATION. DEFINITION: Performs skilled gardening, grounds, and greens maintenance, and building custodial work, or has responsibility for leading others performing routine maintenance and custodial functions.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
Positions allocable to this class report to a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, Senior Grounds Maintenance Worker, or Beach Maintenance Supervisor and are responsible for leading and participating in the work of from one to three grounds maintenance workers. Positions allocable to this class also independently perform a full range of grounds maintenance tasks, requiring a working knowledge of horticultural techniques and the ability to train others in the use of grounds maintenance equipment and techniques.
Essential Job Functions- Plants and maintains non-landscaped and landscaped areas.
- Removes and/or disposes of, but not limited to, debris, litter, dead animals, hazardous materials, and recycled materials from various locations.
- Fills and places sandbags, tarps, and barricades at various locations (e.g., in front of restrooms, on embankments, hillsides, near stairs and ramps, gyms, compromised structures).
- Monitors and participates in the assigned areas.
- Performs minor repairs to structures (e.g., ensure plumbing fixtures are operable in restrooms, replacing light bulbs), as needed.
- Maintains endangered species sanctuaries, and/or cleans and sanitizes facilities.
- Assists in the basic maintenance and upkeep of assigned vehicle, tools, and equipment.
- Interacts with a variety of individuals.
- Prepares the facility for upcoming activities within the course of routine operations.
- Trains others in the course of performing job duties.
- Completes and maintains basic written records of routine and periodic work activities including, but not limited to, department reports.
- Drives a County-issued pool vehicle and/or equipment with a current, valid driver’s license to arrive at various job sites.
- Prepares final written documents, as required.
- Leads court referral, general relief, and/or other workers assigned to grounds maintenance and custodial tasks.
- Manages and repairs the irrigation system programming and distribution.
Requirements MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS: One year's experience* in grounds maintenance, gardening, or nursery work at a publicly used facility. **
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License*** is
required. PHYSICAL CLASS III:
This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION: *Experience is evaluated on the basis of a verifiable 40- hour week. Part-time experience will be prorated.
**Publicly used facility is defined as Office Buildings, Correctional facilities (e.g., prisons, jails), Schools and Educational Institutions, Hotels, Motels, Airports, Parks, and Beaches.

EXAMINATION CONTENT: This exam will consist of an evaluation of your experience based on the information you provide in your employment application and the supplemental questionnaire. The evaluation is weighted
100% of your final score and will assess the following:

You must meet the requirements, be willing and able to perform job-related tasks, and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible list. VACANCY INFORMATION :
The resulting list will be used to fill permanent positions with the Department of Beaches & Harbors and will be valid for 6 months. Individuals appointed to a position may be assigned to work any of the work schedules and locations based on operational needs:
