    This position may be filled at one of the three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. The entry salary is posted above, with the intermediate starting salary of $56,712.48, and senior starting salary of $61,249.44.

    Job Location: Central Office, Design Division, 601 West Main, Jefferson City, MO

    The historic preservation specialist architectural historian - non safety sensitive performs routine entry-level activities involving investigations of built-environment cultural resources, writing reports and memoranda, and addressing impacts of proposed transportation projects. Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision.

    What you’ll do:

    • Conducts built-environment investigations, including development of historic contexts and resource surveys in accordance with department policies for approval by the Federal Highway Administration and in support of Section 106 compliance.
    • Assesses resources for eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places including development of significance statements and justifications. Develops assessments of project effects on eligible and listed resources.
    • Completes technical reports and memos, mitigation documentation, and legally binding Agreement Documents in compliance with state and federal preservation laws, regulations, and standards.
    • Collaborates and consults with other agencies and key personnel to ensure accuracy and completeness of project needs and documentation.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree: Historic Preservation, Architectural History, History, Cultural Geography, American Studies, or related field
    • Substitution of education for experience may be considered


    Special Working Conditions:

    • Job requires occasional, statewide, overnight travel.
