DescriptionVacancy is in the Health and Human Services Department. Under supervision, assists in the City-wide sanitation and rodent control program by inspecting, baiting, trapping and gassing rodent burrows. Inspects all waste collection facilities, in an assigned area to determine that such facilities conform to all applicable Public Health laws, statutes and ordinances. Investigates problems of yard and street litter. Assists in the maintenance of commercially and privately-owned waste collection facilities. Investigates and reports on complaints of tenants and landlords concerning violations of Public Health laws, statutes and ordinances. I dentifies and reports abandoned cars, trucks, and other abandoned vehicles. Discusses and reviews proper and modern methods of waste storage with citizens. Investigates and condemns defective waste storage facilities and makes recommendations for their replacement. Investigates sanitary conditions around public and private buildings and streets and assists in maintaining public health standards. Performs related work as required.
This is a 1716 union position. The hours of work for this position are 40 per week.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesThe examination will consist of rating your training and experience as contained on your application and may include a written test, an oral test, or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination is designated to measure the following:
Knowledge of: - Public health and sanitary laws, statutes and ordinances
- Modern methods and practices of waste storage and collection
- Modern methods, techniques and practices of rodent inspection and control.
Ability to: - Operate rodent control equipment and safely handle rodent pesticides
- Write simple reports
- Follow oral and written instructions
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with property owners, tenants and City employees.
QualificationsOpen to all applicants who meet the following qualifications:Graduation from a standard high school, vocational school or possession of a high school equivalency
AND one (1) year of experience in waste collection, rodent control, customer service, maintenance work, custodial services or a related field.
Special Requirement: Must possess a valid State of Connecticut driver's license.
A copy of your valid driver's license must be submitted with your application. State of Connecticut Pesticide Supervisory Certification in Pesticide category 7D preferred
