  • Job Description

    Full-time position available with the Water Department, Wastewater Treatment Division located at 950 North Century
    Salary Range: $7,268-$10,902/month
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Plans, assigns, supervises and general maintenance within buildings and associated infrastructure, including mechanical equipment and confers with engineering staff on technical aspects of projects and activities.
    • Reviews, revises, and compiles budgets with assistance from assigned subordinate supervisors in field and support activities.
    • Prepares cost estimates for materials, supplies and personnel as needed for division's budget and projects/
    • Inspects work of assigned crews to determine compliance with instructions, technical quality and acceptability of work.
    • Orders materials and equipment needed for accomplishment of duties.
    • Maintains various records and files on supplies, equipment and personnel, grit removal at wastewater facilities. mechanical seals, packing, welding, machine shop equipment experience, pump repair, crane truck equipment operation, heavy equipment rigging experience.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES high school graduation and 6 years' experience in building or water/wastewater utility construction, maintenance, repair, alteration, and cleaning work, including 3 years of supervisory experience. Must possess a valid State -issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City. May be required to possess at least one of the certifications listed below within 6 months of moving into this job classification in accordance with state regulations: Distribution System Level III (DS-III) License with the State of Missouri; Wastewater Collections system level A certification with the State of Missouri; Level A operator certification in water or wastewater issued by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Approved third party certification maintenance operations including: HVAC, welding, plumbing, electrical, machinist, mechanic etc.; Meter Testing or Repair Certification. Preference given for a Class A CDL and a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in facility and maintenance repairs; Right-of-Way Certification; and considerable knowledge of pump station maintenance.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
