  • Job Description

    Full-time position available with the Water Department, Wastewater Treatment Division located 7300 Hawthorne Road
    Salary Range: $7,268-$10,902/month
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday; 6:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

    Responsibilities

    • Supervises and participates in the operation of six major treatment facilities, seven flood stations and sixty-six pumping stations.
    • Establishes operating procedures for the efficient operation of wastewater treatment facilities.
    • Supervises and participates in troubleshooting problems with processes and equipment.
    • Ensures proper priority is assigned to repair work by maintenance crews.
    • Must have thorough knowledge of the operational principles and practices of the treatment facilities to which assigned; the operation and maintenance requirements of plant equipment, and various sampling, testing, and measuring equipment used by operations personnel; proper sample collection and handling procedures; all applicable federal and state regulations for the facilities to which assigned; records maintenance practices for plant operations.
    • Must have considerable knowledge of pump station operation (all types), laboratory analysis procedures and interpretation of results, emergency procedures for injuries, power outages, equipment failures, flooding, etc.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES high school graduation and 6 years' experience in building or water/wastewater utility construction, maintenance, repair, alteration, and cleaning work, including 3 years of supervisory experience. Must possess a valid State -issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City. May be required to possess at least one of the certifications listed below within 6 months of moving into this job classification in accordance with state regulations: Distribution System Level III (DS-III) License with the State of Missouri; Wastewater Collections system level A certification with the State of Missouri; Level A operator certification in water or wastewater issued by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Approved third party certification maintenance operations including: HVAC, welding, plumbing, electrical, machinist, mechanic etc.; Meter Testing or Repair Certification. Preference given for A-level Wastewater License.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
