Plans Examiner Supervisor to lead our team of talented plans examiners within the Community Development Department. Salary Range:
$69,455 - $97,792 annuallyFor more details, review the full job details and requirements below.The Plans Examiner Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and oversight of work completed by plans examiners. This work includes review of permit applications including commercial, industrial and residential new construction, shell building, tenant finish, and remodels and ensuring that architectural and structural plans comply with local adopted building codes, standards, and Municipal Code Title 15 ordinances. Working as part of the Community Development team, the Plans Examiner Supervisor collaborates and strategizes with other supervisors to enhance the customer service experience for the City’s permit applicants.
Key Responsibilities - Manages the team of Building Codes plans examiners; assigns workloads, oversees daily operations, and ensures efficient and thorough plan reviews; trains new employees, provides ongoing education, and accountable to keep the team updated on code changes and best practices; works with other plans examiners throughout the City for an exceptional customer service-based experience and reduced time-to-market approvals.
- Oversees and participates in the examination of architectural and engineering plans, ensuring compliances with applicable codes and ordinances; provides guidance and expert advice on complex plans, building codes, and other regulations; ensures all reviews are conducted accurately, on time and meet department standards; collaborates with other departments to ensure projects comply with all applicable regulations.
- Assists developers, architects, contractors, and the general public with inquiries about codes, regulations, and review processes; addresses and resolves conflicts or discrepancies in plans or between staff and applicants; supports the plans examining staff as the first line of communication and responds to permit applicants for any escalated questions, suggestions or concerns.
- Obtains a thorough knowledge of the permit database system and implements efficiencies and changes as required with the City’s project management team; maintains records with the City’s permit database system of all reviewed plans and inspections; prepares reports, summaries, and makes recommendations for management team.
Qualifications Experience: Extensive experience in plan review, building inspections, or related fields, is required. A minimum of three years of prior demonstrated supervisory, management or leadership experience is preferred.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are required. International Code Council (ICC) Building Plans Examiner certification and accessibility plans examiner/ inspector are required within the first year of employment. Two additional ICC certifications in the following are required: electrical plans examiner, mechanical plans examiner, plumbing plans examiner, and energy conservation plans examiner.
