    The Position

    Security Officers provide security for State buildings and occupants, enforce laws and apprehend offenders.

This is the journey level in the series.

    The Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas (NSMLV) in the Division of Museums and History within the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs is seeking a Security Officer. The NSMLV is a public visitor and educational institution that incorporates the functions of a flagship cultural and natural history museum, exhibits and programs venue, research library and archive academic research, and educational offerings for all ages. Security Officers provide a variety of both public health and safety functions as well as daily visitor/customer service responsibilities. Duties include to conduct interior and exterior foot patrols of buildings and grounds; enforces all museum rules and policies for visitors using non-confrontational and deescalating methods of communication; monitors and maintains video surveillance and alarm systems; responds and reports to security problems; acts as the point of contact for all first aid/injury situations; leads and monitors safe building evacuation during alarm activation including regular drills; secures building at closing; provides regular training and assists development of emergency response plans, policies, and procedures; refers public inquiries and clients to appropriate staff; may be asked by staff to help directly assist or spot in gallery installations or building projects and occasionally works in emergency situations.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in public contact work which included applying and implementing rules, regulations or established policies OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Some positions required working on evening, weekends, and/or holidays. Some positions require certification in CPR at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Some positions require first aid certification at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
