    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Clark County Office of Public Safety is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Security Officer position. The Security Officer position patrols and protects County property and facilities on foot or motorized transportation. In addition, this position may transport County employees and visitors to other on-site and off-site locations with various non-CDL required vehicles (small buses, vans, cars, golf carts, etc.), and for fueling and maintenance.

    THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 250 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED.

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND two (2) years full-time experience in security , law enforcement, or military police which has included contact with the public.

    All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application.     Working Conditions: Work scheduled off-hours shifts. Work outdoors in all weather conditions. Work with exposure to heavy traffic and potentially hazardous emissions and fumes. May come into contact with abusive and/or violent individuals. Wear a uniform as specified.

    Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.

    Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

    Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

    Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

    Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Patrols County facilities and property by foot, motorized cart, or vehicle, as required.
    • Monitors for and reports suspicious activities, circumstances, and prowlers.
    • Appropriately reports any suspicious or emergency situations to a county designated security command post, the appropriate emergency services (police, fire, or medical), or a supervisor.
    • Checks County facilities and property for evidence of unauthorized entry or use, fire or fire threat, vandalism, and theft.
    • Attends to restricted use parking lots, determines eligibility of persons to use parking lots, directs drivers to parking locations.
    • Drives various non-CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) vehicles, sometimes with passengers, to various points on-site as needed.
    • May drive County vehicles to on-site and off-site locations for passenger transport, fueling, and maintenance.
    • Fuels vehicles as needed and performs basic upkeep on the vehicles such as cleaning and light preventative maintenance.
    • May perform routine custodial/maintenance duties. Provides information and directs the public to desired services.
    • Operates PBX phone system, two-way radios, computers, x-ray scanner, and metal detector as required.
    • Monitors automated security system controlling card-key access, remote cameras, fire and intrusion alarms, elevator alarms, and building control systems for HVAC and utilities.
    • Secures and locks county facilities and property.
    • Provides security, crowd and/or traffic control, and assistance for County meetings and events, as needed.
    • Directs contract security personnel as required.
    • Completes accurate and concise reports, forms, and logs.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Mobility to work in an office, stores or construction setting, use standard office equipment and drive a vehicle to perform security and patrol duties; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials and hearing and speech to communicate in person, on the radio or over the telephone.
