    Minimum Qualifications
    Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of building maintenance and construction work, including heating, cooling, electrical, and plumbing systems.
    • Relevant work experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.


    Licenses or Certifications:
    • Texas Class “C” Operator’s License.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Moderate. Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, or using a force equal to lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.

    The purpose of the Maintenance Worker III position is to perform building construction, inspections, repairs and maintenance to PARD Facilities including historical, administration, museums, recreation and community centers.

    Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • CARPENTRY WORK : Repair walls, ceilings, floors, siding, furniture, cabinets, doors, trim, etc.
    • HARDWARE : Maintenance and repair of door hardware including door closers, locksets, deadbolts, panic bars, door stops, hinges, thresholds, kick plates and weather stripping.
    • DRYWALL WORK : Installation of tape, float, and texture of gypsum board and application of spray and roll textures.
    • PAINTING : Application of latex and oil base paints, varnish, sealers, on walls, ceilings and building exteriors.
    • OPERATE POWER TOOLS : Drills, circular saws, routers, grinders, sanders, radial arm saws, table saws, pneumatic nail guns, etc.
    • USE INDUSTRY TOOLS : Measure and layout using measuring tape, level, squares, string line, laser level, and transit.
    • INSPECT : Buildings, structures, and RECORD data on appropriate forms, logs, and iPads, Desktop computers, etc.

    • Driving Requirement: This position requires a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three (3) moving violations or a total of six (6) Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
    • Military/Veteran: An applicant claiming Military/Veteran status must provide a copy of his or her DD-214(s), or valid comparable document, at the time of interview.
    • Physical Requirements: Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying or using a force equal to lifting up to lifting up to thirty-five (35) pounds. Work environment includes inside, and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, gases and mists. Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond and work with participant’s needs and safety issues.

    Pay Range
    $22.22 - $24.77 per hour

    Work Location/Schedule Notes:
    • Monday through Friday; 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
    • May be required to work during special events, evenings, weekends & holidays.
    • Work schedule and location is subject to change based on department needs and programs.
    • May be required to work during City emergencies such as extreme weather events.

    Preferred Experience:
    • Experience in commercial building construction, repair and maintenance.
    • Experience in commercial door and door hardware installation, troubleshooting and repair.
    • Experience in wood and metal stud structural framing.
    • Experience in drywall installation, tape, float, and texture of gypsum board.
    • Experience in interior and exterior painting.
    • Experience in acoustical ceiling grid and tile installation and repair.


    Preferred Certifications:
    • Forklift 29 CFR 1910.178 Operator Training Certificate or have the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
    • Aerial Lifts 29 CFR 1926.453 Operator Training Certificate or have the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
    • OSHA Construction Safety and Health 29 CFR 1910 Training Certificate or have the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.


    Preferred Skills:
    • Basic proficiency with Desktop or Tablet Computers.
    • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.


    Other:
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


    Inspects buildings and equipment for needed repairs and maintenance. Repairs and maintains heating and cooling systems as required. Installs or replaces floors and ceramic tiles. Repairs or replaces electric plugs and cords. Drives vehicles as needed. Performs service on pumps, air handlers, cooling towers, etc. Repacks, changes oil/filters, lubricates, etc. Operates drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, and various power saws, i.e. radial arm, skill, etc. Operates acetylene cutting torch, welder, etc. Performs basic plumbing installations/repairs i.e. install and repair faucets, unclog drains, replace valves, etc. Performs semi-skilled carpentry work in the construction and repair of walls, ceilings, etc. Operates forklift. Reads profiles/blueprints.
