    Position Summary

    The Entry Level Scholarship Coordinator will support financial aid and scholarship applicants, assisting with eligibility requirements, academic progress, personal budgeting, and resolving financial barriers to university attendance. This role supports students at San Diego, Imperial Valley, and Global Campuses.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Assist students and families with inquiries related to financial aid, scholarships, and budgeting.
    • Review financial aid and scholarship awards for compliance with federal and state regulations.
    • Assess financial and academic circumstances and provide recommendations.
    • Support scholarship program coordinators with tasks such as pre-offers, post-acceptance processes, committee support, and scholarship disbursements.
    • Manage external scholarships and scholarship-related reports.
    • Assist with financial aid and scholarship support across multiple campuses.
    • Serve as a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.

    Position Information
    • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
    • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
    • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
    • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

    Department Summary

    The Student Financial Resource sub-division within the Division of Student Affairs & Campus Diversity includes the Student Financial Center, Financial Aid Office, Scholarship Office, and Basic Needs/Economic Crisis Response Team (ECRT). This sub-division provides student-centered services in a transparent, regulated, and compliance-driven environment under the leadership of an Assistant Vice President.

    The Scholarship Office at SDSU supports students' academic success by enhancing their financial well-being. Aligned with the university’s mission to break down barriers and transform lives, the office serves students across all SDSU campuses-San Diego, Imperial Valley, and Global Campus. The office awards over $6 million in scholarships, provides guidance on eligibility and availability, manages scholarship funds and reporting, and ensures timely and accurate delivery through an efficient, innovative processing system.

    Education and Experience

    Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

    Key Qualifications
    • Knowledge of individual and group behavior principles, research and observation techniques for data collection and interpretation, and interviewing methods.
    • Ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
    • Capable of participating in and contributing to meetings, conferences, and interviews.
    • Strong oral communication skills for expressing ideas and recommendations.
    • Proficient in writing clear and concise reports.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is preferred.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,952 per month.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,952 - $4,834 per month.
