    The Transporatation & Public Works Department has an opening for a Part-Time Fleet Coordinator.

    The Fleet Coordinator is responsible for the hands-on inspection, maintenance, and repair of all vehicles and equipment assigned to the Public Works Department. This role involves diagnosing mechanical issues, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring that all vehicles and equipment operate safely and efficiently. The Fleet Coordinator oversees and expedites repair requests, schedules preventive maintenance, and verifies that all work—whether performed in-house or by outside vendors—is completed properly and in a timely manner. Additionally, the Fleet Coordinator maintains the overall condition, organization, and cleanliness of the Public Works storage yard and warehouse, ensuring tools, equipment, and materials are readily available for operations.

    Job responsibilities include:

    • Conducts hands-on inspections of all Public Works vehicles and equipment to identify mechanical issues, ensure proper function, and determine necessary repairs or maintenance.
    • Performs basic maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, fluid level checks, and part replacements to keep vehicles and equipment operational.
    • Maintains a clean and organized warehouse and shop area to ensure a safe and efficient working space for all vehicles, equipment, and tools.
    • Works directly with department staff to schedule vehicles and equipment for repairs, preventive maintenance, and safety inspections; performs on-the-spot diagnostics to assess immediate issues when necessary.
    • Obtains estimates from vendors or contractors for outside repair work; monitors status, verifies work completion, and ensures accuracy of costs charged to work orders.
    • Responds to service calls for vehicles and equipment in the field, diagnosing issues and making minor on-site repairs or coordinating with vendors for assistance when required.
    • Writes necessary reports, including maintenance logs, repair documentation, and inspection findings, and assists with vehicle licensing and compliance requirements.
    • Tracks vehicle and equipment usage to determine when preventive maintenance is due based on time, mileage, or fuel usage, and performs necessary tasks to extend asset life.
    • Recommends removing vehicles or equipment from service when repairs are required for safety reasons or when operational priorities dictate immediate attention.
    • Maintains an accurate inventory of tools, parts, and materials in the Public Works storage yard; ensures proper storage and accessibility for efficient use.
    • Performs general cleaning, organization, and maintenance of the Public Works storage yard, warehouse, and fleet workspaces.
    • Operates a variety of tools, diagnostic equipment, and mechanical systems to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain vehicles and equipment effectively.
    • Performs other duties as required or assigned, including assisting mechanics and field staff with hands-on repair and maintenance tasks.



    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications: • High School diploma or GED equivalent. • Due to the nature of this position, criminal history must be clear.
