San Bernardino County Fire Protection District seeks
strong, forward-thinking leaders in the fire service to fill key positions in the
Fire Executive Team to assist in guiding the future direction of the district while continuing to ensure the safety of the County’s residents and visitors.
The
Fire District is recruiting for
Division Chief. Fire Division Chiefs report to a Deputy Fire Chief or an Assistant Fire Chief and are responsible for administrative and managerial
oversight for one of the department’s functional divisions, such as: Administration, Training and Safety, Emergency Medical Services, Wildland and Aviation, Emergency Management, or Volunteer Forces. Fire Division Chiefs serve as the County-Wide Duty Chief and may also provide Battalion coverage while Battalion Chiefs take leave or are on fire assignments.

Fire-Exempt C compensation and benefits package is offered and includes competitive annual salaries and generous benefits.
Fire Division Chief $152,214 - $216,694 Annually The County also offers an alternative
Modified Benefit Option (MBO) that provides a wage differential of 4% above the base salary rate with modified benefits , including: Use of increased pay rate to calculate County contributions to RMT, 401(k), and 457(b) plans, leave cash outs, and retirement contribution rate.
Minimum RequirementsEXPERIENCE This position requires progressively responsible management fire command experience, preferably in a mid to large size all risk fire protection agency, with a
minimum of o ne year as a Fire Battalion Chief or higher , at time of appointment*. ( *Applications will be accepted from candidates who have less than the required experience, but who will attain such experience prior to appointment.)
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION - An Associate's degree or equivalent coursework [sixty (60) semester (90 quarter)] units in fire science, public/business administration, or related field is required, while a Bachelor's degree is desired.
- State Fire Officer, Chief Fire Officer, or Executive Chief Fire Officer Certification issued by the California Office of the State Fire Marshal, or equivalent national certification is required.
- California Incident Command Certification System (CICCS) qualifications are desired.
Substitution: Up to two (2) years of additional qualifying experience may substitute for the required education on the basis of one (1) year of additional qualifying experience for 30 semester (45 quarter) units of the required education.
