Under immediate supervision in the Office of Parks and Recreation, Facility Security Assistants provide support related to the use and security of public buildings, recreational facilities, parks, and other City properties in use by staff or patrons; perform a combination of building security, answering phones, responding to the public, accepting rental applications and modifying rental agreements for extended hours, enforcing rules and regulations of the facility, moving and setting-up furniture which may include lifting and other light cleaning duties; and perform related duties as assigned.
This is an entry-level classification whose incumbents provide oversight and basic security to public buildings, recreational facilities, parks, and other City properties in use by City staff or patrons. Facility Security Assistants receive immediate supervision from supervisory or management staff, and may provide oversight to subordinate staff.

What you will typically be responsible for: - Overseeing usage of facilities by staff or patrons; providing security oversight by enforcing rules and regulations established by facility and contracted terms of agreement for facility usage (i.e. hours of event, alcohol usage, requesting uninvited guests to leave), and reporting major problems as needed
- Performing routine and special security checks; opening and closing facilities; monitoring people entering or leaving the property after regular operating hours
- Preparing facility for special event or rental, reviewing facility checklist prior to renting
- Sweeping and mopping floors, wiping down tables and kitchen and vacuuming carpets prior to event; checking facility and bathrooms for cleanliness and supplies; emptying trash and litter containers
- Arranging equipment and furniture; performing set-up for scheduled activities; securing building
- Maintaining scheduled office hours, answering phones, responding to the public regarding facility usage; working assigned shifts, which can include nights, holidays and weekends
- Lifting heavy furniture and equipment for facility set up and usage
- Observing and enforcing safety standards and security requirements; identifying existing and potential hazards

Minimum Requirements for ApplicationThis is a public contact position. The City highly encourages all bilingual candidates to apply! Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

License or Certificate / Other Requirements:Successful incumbents in this job are expected to operate an automotive vehicle in the performance of the assigned duties. Due to the nature of the assignment and the hours worked, public transportation may not be a cost-effective method for traveling to the various locations required. Individuals who are appointed to this position will be required to maintain a valid California Driver's License throughout the tenure of employment OR demonstrate the ability to travel to various locations or transport equipment in a timely manner as required in the performance of duties.
