    THIS POSITION IS TEMPORARY (UP TO 40 HOURS) WITH LIMITED BENEFITS. No Qualified Candidate Pool (QCP) will be established. (Please see the Benefits tab for additional information.) You will only be contacted if there is an interest from the hiring department.

    The Senior Transportation Planner for Southern California 511 (SoCal 511) is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation and continuous improvement of the SoCal 511 traveler information system. This role requires expertise in transportation planning, data analysis, and collaboration. Key responsibilities include analyzing transportation data, contributing to platform enhancements, and working with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely travel information to the public. Performance Qualification are list below for this position

    Examples of Duties

    • Supports analysis, both quantitative and qualitative, of transportation projects, programs, and policies
    • Prepares specific components of scopes of work, financial plans, schedules, contracts, and agreements
    • Schedules and coordinates meetings with Metro departments and external parties
    • Participates in meetings with Metro staff, community organizations, cities, and other public agencies
    • Assists in negotiations and execution of various agreements
    • Manages small, single-site or region-wide projects or funding programs; manages small consultant contracts or assists with the management of large contracts
    • Manages project schedules, budgets, tasks, and assigned activities
    • Conducts analyses and makes policy recommendations
    • Provides technical guidance to local jurisdictions and outside agencies on Metro programs
    • Assists in evaluating the costs, benefits, and risks associated with various plans, programs. and projects
    • Prepares and delivers reports, presentations, and correspondence
    • Coordinates with other Metro departments on programs and projects
    • Applies, develops, and implements statistical analysis procedures
    • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

    Minimum Qualifications

    A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:Education
    • Bachelor's Degree in Urban or Transportation Planning, Engineering (Civil, Transportation, Structural, Industrial, Mechanical, Architecture, etc.), Business, Public Administration, Political Science, Urban Design, Public Policy, Finance, or a related field; Master's Degree in a related field preferred

    Experience
    • Three years of relevant experience in transportation planning, project management, urban design, transportation system design and research, travel simulation and demand modeling, transportation finance, operations planning, or other related area; some positions in this class may require specialized experience in area of assignment

    Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
    • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions preferred

    Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications (PQs) are used to identify relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as determined by business necessity. These criteria are considered preferred qualifications and are not intended to serve as minimum requirements for the position. PQs will help support selection decisions throughout the recruitment. In addition, applicants who possess these PQs will not automatically be selected.

    The following are the preferred qualifications:
    • Experience overseeing and managing transportation platforms such as 511 systems, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and integrated data tools
    • Experience evaluating and implementing improvements to multimodal traveler information services, including web platforms, IVR systems, mobile applications, and social media
    • Experience managing special events and emergency situations using Event Management Systems (EMS) and developing operational responses for planned and unplanned events
    • Experience consolidating transportation data from various sources, generating meaningful analytics, and presenting actionable insights through operations dashboards
    • Experience tracking and recording strategies that improve user engagement, service consistency, and customer satisfaction for traveler information services


    Essential Knowledge

    Knowledge of (defined as a learned body of information that is required for and applied in the performance of job tasks)
    • Theories, principles, and practices of transportation, urban and regional planning, land use planning and regulations, programming, public financing techniques mobility, and/or fiscal analysis
    • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing transportation policies, funding sources, real estate leasing, mobility and development practices.
    • Financial, analytical, statistical research, and mathematical processes and procedures
    • Technical research methods, analysis, and innovation
    • Best practices regarding project management and planning
    • Applicable business software applications
    • Emerging business models and opportunities to test new models of service delivery
