We are recruiting to fill a Detention Juvenile Officer IV position to perform highly responsible management work in the operation of a Missouri juvenile detention center. An employee in this position is vested with the statutory authority of a juvenile officer to take charge of juveniles in custody within a juvenile detention center. Position is expected to serve as a superintendent for a juvenile detention center. Position is also responsible for ensuring that the Missouri Standards for Operation of a Secure Juvenile Detention Facility are met.
- Oversees the administration of and supervises the daily operations of a juvenile detention center.
- Develops and administers detention center policies and procedures in accordance with the Standards for Operation of a Secure Juvenile Detention Facility.
- Directs and supervises all activities in a juvenile detention center.
- Develops or assists in the development of programs designed for the social adjustment and rehabilitation of delinquent juveniles.
- Participates in the development of budget requests; monitors expenditures according to budget allocations/appropriations; recommends and/or initiates cost-saving measures
Minimum Qualifications Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Criminal Justice Administration, Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or related field and three years of professional employment in a public or private agency involving substantial amount of time (over 50% time) in the delivery of protective services to families, adults, children, or the aged, of which one year must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR three years of experience as a Detention Juvenile Officer III, IV, or V in a Juvenile Detention Center in Missouri.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education; graduate level education may substitute for up to two years of the required work experience.
Preferred Qualifications - Advanced knowledge of juvenile courts and procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of statutes and laws regarding juvenile cases.
- Advanced knowledge of the Standards of Operation of a Secure Juvenile Detention Facility.
- Advanced knowledge of governmental budgeting, fiscal management, grants and contracts.
- Advanced knowledge of personnel policies and shift scheduling.
