This position is integral in serving the needs of the vulnerable elderly and disabled populations by providing interventions, resources and protective services to those in need. A person in this position will exercise professional customer service and receive hands on experience.
What you’ll do: - Investigate reports of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation of the elderly (age 60+) and disabled (ages 15-59)
- Conduct home visits to observe surroundings and interview victims, caregivers and alleged perpetrators.
- Assess individuals for eligibility of Department and community resource programs. Coordinated intensive intervention activities for ongoing protective service needs; including but not limited to referrals for Guardianship/Conservatorship, involuntary detention, and criminal prosecution to the appropriate entities or officials such as probate court, law enforcement, prosecuting attorney, county public administrator, and the Department of Mental Health when necessary.
- Travel within a multi-county area in response to assigned work, utilizing your personal vehicle when required.
- Work a rotation of on-call, being available after hours (7am-12am) to respond to emergency hotlines.
All you need for success: Minimum Qualifications - For an APS Specialist I: A Bachelor's or higher level degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications - For an APS Specialist II: One or more years of experience as an Adult Protective and Community Worker and/or Children’s Service Worker with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

- One or more years of professional experience in criminal, civil, or administrative investigations and/or the delivery or coordination of social, protective, medical, mental health, or rehabilitative services for senior or disabled adults, children, or families in a public or private agency.
